Families Weeekend: planning ahead to meet

Rice University | Families Weekend - Home

Back in '08, a few Rice parents at this forum did a little planning before Families Weekend, and then had a wonderful time at the Pavilion chatting about our kids, Chef Roger, off-campus living, etc.

Our planning began, if I remember correctly, with a few PMs, and then migrated to e-mails where we shared contact info and best times to meet.

It was fun learning from each other's experiences, making new friends, and later, keeping in touch from time to time. I smile whenever I read forum messages and can put a face to a screen name.

I won't be returning to campus till '11 -- but I hope some personal messages will soon be ignited so you can have as much fun as we did in '08! It seems like there are some wonderful parents out there who will have plenty to share!

Ottoline, thanks for the idea and too bad you won’t be there. My wife and I would be interested in connecting with other Rice parents, so please feel free to PM me. It looks like a very busy weekend, but even if we could just meet at Brochstein for coffee, that would be nice.

If this approach fizzles, bird rock, I hope you’ll connect with friendly parents at your son’s residential college’s commons, or in a class, and/or at one of the many events. Maybe you can both wear labels that say Bird Rock, and CC insiders will spot you. And then you can pm each other, email each other when you get home.

Sending and receiving personal messages is such a treat! Thank you, CC!

^^ We’re not worried at all. Without even trying it was easy to connect with other families at Owl Days and O Week. Also, we just got a mailing from the the group ( can’t remember what it’s called ) that tries to get parents involved in activities supporting Rice, so we’ll probably do some of that.

Maybe if I’d chosen a name other than “bird rock” I could do the name label thing :)

^ be " B Rock"

cleverly space it so it could be read as Brock as well
