Family can't afford EFC

@gearmom - it was "a giant home equity loan” - not giant home equity!

^:)^ @dodgersmom‌ I misread. Hence my calling it ‘Alabama’ and not UAH. Terribly sorry for this error.

When my dad worked we could afford the house we are currently still living in but it’s been over 10 years since then and all savings are gone

@dodgersmom saw that right after posting. Thnx we’re not do well with CR right now LOL

I am very appreciative of everyone’s suggestions though and will definitely consider all my options, thanks for the help!

G’Town meets full need so you may get lucky, as would your two reaches too I presume.
Do call NEU and set up an appointment with financial aid.
Keep us updated!

Gtown is one of my reaches but I’m not going to count on an acceptance. I did really like George Washington though so I hope a likely letter means generous merit aid!

Did your parents take any money out of their retirement to help pay your day to day living expenses?

Please do let us know what NEU financial aid says. Something just isn’t adding up here.

Check the numbers on your Profile to see if a decimal point was misplaced…making something like $10,000.00 100,000.00

And also check to make sure your parent income didn’t get entered in two spots…like in the student section as well as the parent section.

I actually just received my umass amherst financial aid package and all they want from me is 5k a year in federal loans, looks like the crisis is averted. Thanks for all the help everyone!

Wonderful! UMassis. Great school! Congratulations!!

I was accepted to the honors program too, which I’ve heard wonderful things about, so this really is great news for me! Thank you

Excellent, @basta6. Congratulations!

@basta6 That’s great! UMass is an excellent school. Maybe UVM will do the same and you will have options.

Love to hear great news. Congrats!!!

My heart was breaking for you. UMASS is a great school! You are so lucky to be able to attend with only $5k in loans! Good luck to you!

Your kind comments really mean a lot, thank you all so much!

CONGRATULATIONS, UMass Honors with only $5,000 as the federal loan is awesome. And yes, Commonwealth Honors is great - see if they’ll cover your bus ticket to visit (email Admissions, explain you wouldn’t need their help with a fly-in, but with a “bus-in” :p).
And now let us keep our fingers crossed for the other colleges :)… but even if they don’t come through, you have one terrific acceptance!

OP, another cheer for the Honors Program at UMass. Honors programs are super, and the 5 College area is full of opportunities which you can take advantage of. Plus – there is nothing better than graduating with low debt.

Above post is a great suggestion^ for a visit. It will help you to be really excited and committed to your final decision. Keep us posted!

Congrats!

Congratulations but still make the call to NEU if you are truly interested in going there.
