Family May Move to Hanover, NH

Thats entirely dependent on what position you will apply for. If you want to teach there, the market is (obviously) extremely competitive, and much of the faculty is tenured. a Bunch of Hanover High school teachers are Dartmouth Professor rejects who have Ivy League degrees themselves and are easily qualified to teach at Dartmouth. If you're are looking for a position involved with education that is not teaching, (secretary of department, assisnant of any kind, resource manager, etc) it is still very competitive. If you are looking for a position within the school outside of education (secretary, administrative assist., librarian, bookkeeper, etc.) It is not as difficult and you certainly dont need an "in", altho as with any job opportunity, it wouldnt hurt to have one :). Dartmouth offers such a volume of jobs that you should not have a problem working for them--but of course thats dependent on what your quals are, what you want to do, what level of work (reponsibilty) you can handle, etc. There are also many positions at the Dartmouth Hitcock Medical Center. There are many interesting fields offered by Dartmouth that are not directly involved in education, and it is often surprising to consider all the different resources and facilities Dartmouth manages. They practically have a monopoly on the whole town! Best of luck!!!

My husband is an architect--anyone know the firms in the area? He does single family and multifamily as well as commercial architecture. I think he could get on with the facilities department at Dartmouth--they have an ad up now for someone, but the pay was not that good. That is why I was asking about the benefits, would they make up for the lower pay rates?

I have my own business doing small business management. This includes, executive assistant, bookkeeper, HR, and research. I have a couple of clients who I do work for. One of these clients wants to open a retail store in Hanover in the next 2 years and I would most likely be managing that store. If not I would be banging on Dartmouths door trying to get an upper level admin assistant/or executive assistant to the president/dean, or something administrative in any department.

I would enjoy seeing some photos of the Hanover area--does anyone have photos posted on their own website or know of good sites with photos. The chamber of commerce didn't have much at all.

This is from the college website so college oriented, but you will still get some general area pictures in this picture gallery:
