Family recommendation - how important for scholarships ?

Our son's application is already with the second reader for early notification. The person he selected for his family recommendation is traveling alot and has not completed the form. How important is this recommendation for scholarships and is it too late ? (Note: of the optional requirements, he has only done the interview).

Thanks !

The family recommendation form usually never influences a merit scholarship recommendation. Too much weight is put on a student’s academic performance, essays, extracurricular involvements, and the interview for the family rec to really play a factor. Early Notification applicants will not have their decisions finalized at the end of January, so there is still a lot of time to submit this form.

Family recommendations are great when they provide a bit of insight on an applicant from a different perspective. Remember, Guidance Counselors and teachers will already tell us a lot about the applicant’s classroom performance, behavior, and extracurriculars… The Family Rec is much better when it talks about an applicant from another angle that helps us get to know the applicant a little bit better.

If you fax this form to the Admissions Office at 585-461-4595 we can upload it into the student’s file later that day.

Thank you so much for the quick reply !
