Family Recommendation

Hey everyone. I sent in my Common App info yesterday. The rest of my application info (my teacher recs, transcript, SAT II's, etc.) were sent out awhile ago too. I was so happy to be done and am eagerly waiting a reply.

I checked my email today and received verification that my application is complete. I was also notified of the opportunity to send in a Family Recommendation (a recommendation from a family member or someone from my community, as the name clearly implies).

I was just wondering if anyone else received this. Is the request an indication of anything?

GuitarRckr, the request isn't an indication of anything. We simply like to give parents an opportunity, if they want to, to comment on their son or daughter's application.

Thank you very much, dweinerman; I appreciate it.

I hope you have a Happy New Year!

hi, is it ok if i send the form over by fax or say scan it and e-mail it instead of sending it by post? I am an international and I am worried that if I send it through the normal mail then it wouldnt reach on time..
thanks a lot!

pals_26, you can definitely fax it. The number is 585-461-4595.

HI My son applied to U of R, and I was not aware of this letter of recommendation until seeing this thread. I had him check his status and email, and there is no mention of it. Should we have gotten a request for it?

Also, I noticed one of the above posters mentioned that his application is complete. My son's status said it is incomplete until mid-year grades are sent in. I believe that can't happen until the end of January or beginning of February.

Are we missing something here? Thanks!

Dear Thunder: I believe you're right, if you go by the U of R application status tool you'll show incomplete until the mid-semester grades are in. My son show the same thing. However, a call to the admissions office confirmed that the application was "complete" as far as the application deadline was concerned, and in addition they confirmed receipt of some items that had not shown up as received on the on-line tool.

Thank you Weldon. Do you mind if I ask how you heard about the Family rec...online, email or snail mail?

email- they sent the form to download.

so the page wont load on my email... is there somewhere else to get it?

I applied to U of R as well. They sent me the family recommendation form but it is not working anymore. Everyone should do it though, It is a great supplement to the application.
I talk with Joseph Latimer, director of diversity affairs at U of R and he said that the more information you give to U of R and the more you supplement your application really helps your admission possiblities.

Has anyone done an interview yet?

Uh oh…I submitted my application to U of R two days ago and got a confirmation email from commonapp…but I don’t know how to check my status. Where do you check it?

Also, since I applied regular, will U of R take my 2nd semester grades into consideration along with my 1st?

jerseykiwi: Check your email. My son just got two emails from UR today, one with the login/password info and another with the Family Recommendation form.

Your 2nd semester grades cannot be part of your admission decision as they make all their decisions by 4/1. However, if you really mess up in your last semester they can always drop you. So keep your grades up!

In order to check your status you should have a MYROC account set up on the University of Rochester’s website. Please check to be sure that you don’t already have an account set up.

Also, as mentioned above, your second semester grades will be determined to late to factor into an admissions decision.

Can I send it online through e-mail? Also, can i attach the actual recommendation document with the email I’m sending along with the completed form?
Thanks
