Does anyone have any info, reviews or suggestions for this years family weekend? Maybe someone has previously attended and has feedback on the crowds, good events to attend and if the football game is a good option?
@sbhamm - Dinner or Brunch at Adele’s is good. The Silent Auction had a lot of interesting stuff. Last year, the Football Game was really good, but they lost in the end and it was raining. We did enjoy it nonetheless. Just walking around Campus and stopping here and there was nice. There is a lot going on that weekend.
Thanks for the info, I was thinking about where to eat and with so many options for dinner and brunch wasn’t sure. We are planning on attending the game against Michigan which I believe is an 8pm kickoff so I guess navigating the Saturday schedule of events is what I need to focus on.
Obviously this is just one person’s opinion, but I thought family weekend was pretty lackluster. Granted I’ve only been to one (last year’s), but there was nothing that really stood out other than getting to see our daughter. Our plan this year is to simply come down and visit on another weekend.
@DavidHopkins, my thoughts exactly!
Thanks for all the input. Does anyone have a take on if the game against Michigan could/would salvage the Saturday if its indeed a lackluster affair?
Last year during Family Weekend, we didn’t want to deal with the crowds on the day of the football game, so we took the metro into DC and spent the day at Smithsonian museums with our son. They have some nice cafeteria-style restaurants in the museums (esp. National Gallery; also like the one in Natural History), so it made for an easy day with lots of time to talk. You could do that on any weekend of course, but since on Family Weekend a lot of their fellow students are doing stuff with their families anyway, it’s probably one of the better weekends to “steal” your child away from his/her friends and have some time together.
We accidentally sold our season tickets for that game before we realized it was Family Weekend. Being local, I don’t feel that we’re going to miss a lot by not signing up for the events. That said, I think it would be a nice thing for out of state families.
