Family Weekend, October 20-22

Just wondering if anyone is planning on attending the October 20-22 weekend, or has attended this in the past? We've made reservations at the Holiday Inn Express and are working on plane tickets. (We had stayed at the Holiday Inn Decatur for orientation but this seems closer and includes breakfast which is a must for my hungry fourteen-year old.) I doubt we will do this every year, but will break the bank this time since he is a freshman, plus his sister has never seen the campus.

There seems to be a lot of planned activities including lectures, tours, various info sessions, and performances. To tell the truth, I am thinking of the weekend more in terms of relaxing, eating off campus, and catching up on news with kiddo. We'll probably go to Hillel Friday night and do the Lullwater picnic. I am also an alum and there's a ceremony on Sunday for "pinning" legacy kids (a little hoakey I know but I am honestly grateful to the alum office which has bent over backwards with welcoming packets, small bookstore awards, etc.)

Anyone planning on going (or has gone in the past) and how did you structure your weekend? I don't have a sense of son's workload yet (neither does he) so don't know how this will factor in.

Cami, I've booked myself for flights/hotel for Family Weekend, but I'm not familiar with the weekend's structure. Likewise, I don't think I'll be doing this every year either, but since my daughter is also a freshman, it's a good time to check in with her in person. We talk almost every day by phone, and she seems to be edging into a comfort zone. Yesterday's call was about her new Visa credit card not being accepted by a merchant (CVS) -- due to the card being issued to her here in California and the transaction occurring in Georgia. That was resolved easily enough, but it took her aback that the merchant wouldn't accept the card (she's used to seeing me whip out my card and charge with no problems).

Did you register for Family Weekend already?

BTW, I have had good success with the following website (kayak.com) to determine available flights/prices. (If you prefer, indicate non-stop.) The site will give you a listing of all flight options, and then you can click on the airline/itinerary choice. You will be booking online with the airline -- I have used for both United and Delta with no problems.

Thanks very much for that additional info. I will look into flights in the next day or two.
