Started a new thread for this.... Will there be activities during the day on Friday???

Perhaps – but the first major “event” will be the entertainment Friday evening in Wait Chapel. This past fall it was a “Beatles” group.

There was a reception for freshmen parents late Friday afternoon that H & I went to D’s freshman year (obviously) – not sure if they still have it. The full schedule will list a number of activities, like art shows, etc – but it’s stuff that goes on all weekend.

Overall, Family Weekend is ALL about the football game!

And, FYI, that Courtyard by Marriott that people in the other thread recommended is already sold out. I tried to book yesterday, but couldn’t.

DougBetsy there are lots of hotels near the university and even the ones out by Hanes Mall are not that far away. While it is nice to stay near the football stadium (if you want to walk) this past year Family Weekend was raining so I didn’t see too many people hoofing it. We drove and parked across from the stadium, stayed through the end of the game (so sad lost by 1 point) and waited about 20 minutes and we were on our way with little traffic. Stayed at the Fairfield Inn/Suites which was very nice.

^^^ D’s freshman year we didn’t stay at the Courtyard – it was booked. Instead, we stayed at the Holiday Inn Select further up University Parkway. Having no idea what a home WFU football game was like, we went to a great talk on campus Saturday morning on the history of WF. Then we tried to drive to the stadium to meet D at the tailgate (she was helping set up). What a disaster!!! It must have taken us 1+ hours to get from campus to the stadium. The result? H said he’d only ever stay within walking distance of the stadium for future Family Weekends. I have to say, it’s been very easy these past 3 years. There’s also the Sundance, which is across the street from the Courtyard.

DougBetsy- the Sundance Clarion right across the highway might have rooms- nothing fancy, but very reasonable and fine enough. We are staying there for graduation, as we could not get a room at the Marriott either. Check out this link. Good luck!
[Wake Forest University Hotel | Clarion Collection Winston-Salem | Hotels near Wake Forest University](http://www.clarionhotel.com/hotel-winstonsalem-north_carolina-NC486)

Thanks for the tips. I booked us at the Sundance last night. :)

DougBetsy - just booked the Sundance for so we will be there with you :).

Thanks for all the advice everyone - I never realized the Marriott would sell out so early! I went ahead and booked the Marriott for orientation/move in. I know it’s not as big a deal since we don’t have to worry about the football game, but at least I know how to get to campus and the mall from there - now just need to find the Target. When my son moved in to BC fresh year, we made about 3 trips to Target in less than 24 hours :)!

^^^ There is a Target right up University Parkway from Wake. There is also a great sale of “dorm necessities” set up right on the Mag Quad on Move In Day. They have all the plastic drawers, rugs, etc, etc. Bought plastic drawers there for D – less expensive than BB&B.

I have been lurking here for a while and decided I should join and get to know some of my daughters fellow classmates parents. I am so excited for her, but can’t believe it is time for her to leave home…I thought 2010 was so far away!

So relieved to know Target is close by - haha.

kbyers - I am with you - I can’t believe hs graduation and college orientation are right around the corner. It seemed like getting in ED meant months and months of not having to worry about college but here we are already planning for orientation (at least me and my hotel and Target anyway) - yikes!!! Glad to “chat” with other future WF parents too :)

My son was accepted in December; at that time I spoke with someone in the Admissions Office who mentioned “Freshmen” Weekends in April. I have not received any information about this and I could not find anything on the website. Has anyone heard about this?

Also glad to chat with other future WF parents!!!

cocobean, there was a postcard about “Campus Days” in the envelope with my Son’s admission letter. The letter arrived on Feb 26, so maybe they weren’t ready when your son got in in December. Anyhoo, Campus Days are planned for April 9 and April 16. I think students have a choice of one or the other. It’s unclear to me if they’re one-day events or weekends.

Cocoabean: I believe there are admitted student days on Friday April 9 and Friday April 16. I learned this also by phone and not from the web site. My recollection was that the day runs something like 8:30 – 3:00. People should seek confirmation of this though.

DougBetsy and smbsmom - you are awesome!!! Thanks for the quick reply.

Do you plan to go?

Oddly enough, Son hasn’t decided if he’ll go. I guess he realizes these days are geared toward kids with enrollment choices. Since he’s committed via ED, maybe he’s not in the mood to be wooed. (ha ha rhyme) :p

Just spoke with Admissions and they said ED Students were getting notification this week. My son is already committed but we thought it might be fun to attend. (Get to know the campus better and meet some people).

Oh, good. Thanks for the info coco. Maybe when Son gets the info packet he’ll become a little more excited.

We received our invite to Campus Day. We will be attending April 9; This was the best date for us;

Also, Ansley has been selected as a finalist for the Poteat Scholarship; She will have her interview on March 24; Wish us luck!!

Kim

Good luck!
