Family Weekend

Had a great visit over Family Weekend/Fall Break. He seems to be happy, healthy and enjoying life. Of course, by the end of the first night together, he and his brother had fallen back into their old patterns.

Oh
and he’s only used the laundry service a couple times - he is washing his own clothes!

DS is also doing his laundry. There are washers downstairs and they are free. Working on separating colors or just wearing all dark colors
I gave him two sets of linens. So he changed sheets and sent them to laundry service just before my arrival. So I didn’t have to do laundry.

It was much harder to say good bye. Drop off was leaving him with dorm full of people in a group meeting. This time I left him in the dorm alone
We were both in tears. :((

@payn4ward - Our visit last weekend sounds quite like yours - watched the Martian, fed him, got him winter stuff. Enjoyed getting to be on campus on Friday, meet with the teachers and lay eyes on DS. Was too worn out to make it to the social stuff in the evening.

And today
snow flurries are falling.

Windy and snowing on and off all day today here too! Parents’ Weekend is next week for us. The forecast says it will be sunny and 60 degrees for Saturday’s game. I hope that doesn’t change!

I saw that it was snowing in CT! Fingers crossed it doesn’t make its way up north.

Glad that I left DS with some warm clothing and a snow jacket.

^^^^Trust me, he’s still wearing his shorts.

Our first SAS Parents Weekend is in four days and I am REALLY looking forward to seeing DS for the first time since move in day. We have already survived college parents weekend with his older brother so hopefully we can temper our (my) expectations of what the reunion will entail. Communication has been fairly good thus far but I am eager for the opportunity for some “onsite recon” that hasn’t been filtered by either DS or his advisor. DS has asked us to bring his bike, take him out to dinner twice and make time for a Walmart run. He also wants us to bring the family dog
not sure that is going to happen!! That said, his logic regarding the dog is quite good, 'You know why I left home mom, she doesn’t."

If the dog facilitates the jubilant reunion I would love (but don’t expect) it might be worth the hassle ; )

@NCSwimmom you may want to leave the dog home this time. While I see why you might want to take it with you, you have planned quite a bit of running around and the dog won’t be able to go most places with you

Not that you asked me!

Wrapping up Family weekend. Did anyone else get the sense that their kid was happy to see them leave so that they can get back to their routine? I guess that is a good sign that BS is working out.

Heartburner: Yup. He was happy to see us arrive and happy to see us depart. Which means we’ve done our job and raised a kid who can be independent.

I am also looking forward to the SAS parents weekend but I have 6000 miles to fly between now and Friday which I dread. Asking son to make sure he signs me up for teacher sessions and think of anything specific activities he wants to do. Been almost two months and can’t wait to see any changes - communication has been good and he seems to have settled in well. So impressed by how well he is taken care of and glad he loves the food. He says all his classes are great which I am most thrilled by. Really thankful when he says his first time canoe trip was wonderful and getting out in the lake for biology class was fascinating!

Yep, he was happy to see me go.

I threw in a little micromanagement and grooming tips just to cement the deal.

Well, I guess this is a good sign. Our kids have been home the last couple of days – after Parents’ Weekend, the kids get a couple of days off school, and go back today. Last night SoxGirl said to me that she couldn’t wait to get back to school today because she misses her friends.

Great weekend with DD
she is happy and thriving. Thrilled!

Classic! Thanks for the laugh, PLD.

I took him to haircut after calling about three places for an appointment. One was closed on Monday, Columbus day. I plan to make an appointment on Sunday or Monday following family weekend in the future.
I’m sure all the boys will be showing off sporty haircuts.

I also checked and trimmed his toe and finger nails. It wasn’t to bad. It used to be DH’s job at home.

We drove around aimlessly to find a Great Clips. My kid is pretty low maintenance.

Um, no. Eventually, they’ll all have man buns.

Our cat doesn’t even allow that. The thought of attempting that with FormerCK is hiliarious. On second thought, he’s now armed. It would be dangerous.
