Hi all-
University of Maryland right now is my first choice and I was just wondering if having relatives that went there improves the chance of getting in. Both my parents went there, many of my aunts and uncles went there, even my grandmother attended UMD.
I’m a junior at a public in state magnet school. At the end of the semester I’ll have around a 4.7 W, 4.0 UW GPA. I took the new SAT in March and got a 1450 (690 CR, 760 M) and I’m taking it again on Saturday.
I really want to study aerospace engineering.
Thanks!
I know students who did not get in even with parents and family as alumni. Also, it was not part of the application this year (although I know it was 3 years ago).
I don’t think so. I know people who’s parents and siblings went to college park and got rejected. I myself am the first one to attend the umd and i got in. Either way your grades and sat score looks pretty good
With your stats you do not need legacy help.
Don’t believe being a legacy helps, but your stats look pretty good to get in on your own merit.
Legacy is not a factor in admissions. However, there are two scholarships earmarked where legacy comes into play - one requires legacy status, the other considers it. Both of those scholarships are through the alumni association.
