Admissions sent an update to their FAQ section to guidance counselors. It states DE electives are not used in the UF recalculated gpa. So a music class does not count. Only core courses
Would this be true even if the DE elective was from UF DE course?
Yes, UF dual enrollment needs to fall into the right categories to count towards the HS GPA and academic units.
Would a dual enrollment sociology class count as an elective?
@malayk - Sociology meets the social science requirement
Social Science Course Requirements (Academic Core Courses in Social Sciences)
POLICY: A SUS freshman applicant must have three academic credits in Social Science, which may include any combination of the following subjects: Anthropology, Economics, History, Political Science, Psychology, Sociology and Geography.
I was told that even though it won’t count, UF likes to see any type of DE from them. Any merit to this?
@Melissa96 - I assume this is going forward, and not for the current applicants whose decisions will come out tomorrow? Under these guidelines, going forward, would Duel Enrollment Art History be included in UF’s calculation? What about either of these two UF DE classes–>IDS 2338 – Democratic Engagement and Public Leadership OR REL 2121 – American Religious History?
@elthanri - no that has always been the rule, it definitely applies to this year’s applicants. UF dual enrollment is not considered differently then all of the other dual enrollment programs.
Thank you for your reply @Melissa96! So would a student be better off taking AP Art History then DE Art History, for example? All AP classes count - not just “core” APs?
Just strictly looking at it from an admissions perspective, yes. From a credit/GPA perspective it depends on the course grade vs how the student does on AP test. A great AP score can earn 6 credits and meet gen ed requirements. For DE it depends on which class is signed up for but it would only be 3 credits and of course the grade matters.
