Not sure if a student who attended one, 5-week summer college course would be considered as 'having attended colllege before'? Maybe this seems obvious (I guess they have attended!) but I didn't know if they were referring to substantive college enrollment?

If the student is a HS student you put never attended college.

Never attended college & 1st-year undergraduate (high school seniors and/or first-time students should choose this grade level)

Thank you, swimcatsmom! That's what son said I should put, too. Why didn't I see that explanation..? Thanks again!

The instructions are a secret that no one knows exist and they publish in a place where no one can ever find them (seriously). I have posted the link here

Under Step 1, FAFSA on the Web Worksheet, at the bottom of the page is a box NEED HELP? that goes to online help. Or here's the link When you begin college in the 2009-2010 school year, what will be your grade level?

This is question 28 on the paper FAFSA.

Select your grade level in college from July 1, 2009 through June 30, 2010. If you are currently a senior in high school or will be a first-time college student, select Never attended college/1st year.

"Grade level" does not mean the number of years you have attended college, but refers to your grade level in regard to completing your degree or certificate. A student who is not enrolled full-time will require more years than a full-time student to reach the same grade level.
