so my dad just got laid off from his company and we already filled out the fasfa. They basically told us we had to pay most of the money, i think our efc was like 14525 or something. What do i do now because my dad doesn't have a job, so do i have to reapply to fasfa?

FAFSA uses the previous year’s income, so that means income from 2009 (when your dad was still employed). No, you don’t reapply to FAFSA now because your 2009 income didn’t change.

You can contact your schools and let them know of the layoff and ask what they want you to do. They may have a “special circumstances” form for you to submit. However, some schools won’t give consideration to someone who has recently been laid-off because there is an assumption that he’ll get re-employed within a few months. They don’t want to make adjustments in awards only to have the person get re-employed within a few weeks or so.

Did your dad get a severance package? If so, his income for 2010 may still be highish. Does your mom work?

Did you apply to any financial safety schools?
