FASFA mistake??? Help

On the student's section, it asked how much tax I paid.

on my W-2 form it said :
federal income tax withheld: 361
social security tax withheld: 155

Medicare tax withheld: 53

So I added all those up and wrote down the total. Now that I think about it, it doesn't sound right (withheld doesn't sound like 'amount paid').

do i have to fix it?

“Tax” in that instance refers only to federal withholding tax, not to SS or Medicare taxes. You should correct it.

Withheld is not paid. The federal tax paid is what you will have to pay in 2012 taxes, which is likely to be zero for you. What did you make in 2012? You are probably going to get the withheld taxes returned to you as refunds.

Your tax return is going to be very easy to do. Go to [Internal Revenue Service](http://www.irs.gov) and see if you can file a 1040EZ. Print off a form, fill it in, and see what is on line 10. This amount is taxes paid, and will most likely be 0.
