fashion and design schools

can anyone suggest a university offering a good fashion and design profram which aslso may have decent scholarships and grants, etc...

Take a look at SCAD - Savannah College of Art and Design. I'm not sure about fashion per se, but it is a good design school, with good merit aid and several interesting programs.

Parsons School of Design...my friend really wants to go there to major in fashion design stuff. I glanced over there website and it looks like they have decent fin aid, both need and merit

You might check out U. of Cincinnati's design program- it has a good reputation. UC is a commuter school for the most part but they do have some dorms. Not sure about scholarship aid, you can ask them. Also UC is undergoing a huge revamp, aiming toward university excellence, led by the university president, something called 21 ( i.e,m 21st century)...

Look at Fashion Institute of Technology. The tuition is very low if you are a New York state resident.

FIT is also reasonable if you are OOS. SUNY tuition for OOS residents is around $11,000. (Yes, FIT is a SUNY school) They do have dorms and the school is located in the "garment district" of NYC. 7th Ave and 28th Street--just a few blocks from Macy's.

Not sure if the op wants a traditional four year university or not...

A friend of my daughter's is at the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising in Los Angeles. She did a summer at Parsons in NY, but preferred LA to NYC. FIDM has four campuses, but the LA campus is in the garment district and the Market Center and pretty much in the center of things. The have financial aid and merit scholarships as well.

I have a young friend who has studied at Parsons and SCAD. She's been able to get some fabulous internships in NYC. Likewise, Ihave friends who graduated from FIT and have great jobs in the industry.
