Fashion Design at Non-Art Schools

<p>I know this has been asked before, but I'm still having trouble getting good answers - besides art schools and specialized tech schools (Parsons, Pratt, FIT, etc.), what universities have a well-known/well-respected fashion design program?</p>

<p>My friend, a junior in high school, is looking for a college where she can study fashion design (she's been taking classes at FIT for two years) but also experience a "normal" college experience as well as take classes in things other than design. Does anyone know anything about the programs at U-Delaware and FSU?</p>

<p>Oh, and a handicapped-accesible campus is a must, so schools like Syracuse are out.</p>

<p>I don't know about Delaware and FSU but University of Hawaii has a fashion program. It's a degree in the Apparel and Product Design department. Seems to be pretty good. I'm modelling for the fashion show the Senior students are doing this spring to show off their clothing designs. It's a really neat show that's being done like a real fashion show at one of the nice hotels in Waikiki. The clothes I've seen so far are amazing.... seriously, the students are talented... I've heard they've gotten internships with Japanese designers too. I'm not in the major so I can't tell you that much more about it but it might be worht looking into. The campus is handicapped accesible too.</p>

<p>I had this problem. I'm not looking into fashion design as a career though, so it's not as dire, but I would love to pursue it as a hobby.
I know that Cornell as a apparel/textiles department but I wouldn't want to go there because I'd prefer an urban or suburban location.
Brown has an option to co-register at RISD though, which would allow you to take art and fashion design courses there.</p>

<p>I don't know anything about these schools but Albright (PA), Southern Illinois University and Lasell (MA) all have a fashion major/program.</p>

<p>u. indiana - bloomington has a fashion design certificate program (not a major) as an add on to their fashion merchandising major</p>

<p>Wisconsin has a 3-1 program with FIT in NY but accessability varies and is not the best overall.</p>

<p>Wash U in St. Louis has a fashion design major in its art school and has great flexibility in double majoring, taking classes in different schools etc.</p>

<p>University of Cincinnati has an excellent program in both Fashion Design and in Fashion Product Development. Most improtantly, they have a very strong PAID coop program for both of these majors.</p>
