Fashion magazine writing major?

Does anyone know of schools on the east coast (northern) which offer a major in fashion/magazine journalism? Or - fashion merchandising + magazine journalism?

Thanks

The closest I think you would be getting is journalism or maybe print journalism.

-- Okay, I did a little bit of poking around, and here's what I found (and I have no idea how "good" these schools are, but they could be a starting point)

Ohio University's Scripps School Journalism offers a magazine journalism "sequence" (http://scrippsjschool.org/academic_options.php?story_id=63)

Howard offers a fashion merchandising and a news, editorial/print major (www.howard.edu)

NYU offers magazine writing...

Okay, that's all I have time for right now, but if you type colleges+magazine journalism, or fashion merchandising, etc., you'll probably find something

i doubt you could go wrong with Columbia's Journalism program

Here's a link to schools with journalism and mass communications departments: http://www.univsource.com/jmc.htm

There are very few schools in the U.S with such a program. Your best bet would be to just double major in fashion merchandising and journalism. However there are some schools in the U.S with programs that combine fashion and journalism:

Stephen's College has a fashion communication program with a journalism track: http://www.stephens.edu/academics/registrar/catalog/2006-2007/FashionCommunications.php#FCJ

University of Nebraska - Lincoln has a clothing, textiles, design major with a track in journalism and mass communications: http://cehs.unl.edu/tcd/undergrad/tcdJournalism.shtml

The Academy of Art University in san fransisco has a fashion journalism major: http://www.academyart.edu/fashion-school/outline.html?AP=BFA-FSH&ASP=BFA-FSHJR

Thanks - I will pass these suggestions on to my daughter.

I should also mention the fashion school in NYC, Laboratory Institute of Merchandising, has a minor in fashion publishing that you combine with the fashion merchandising degree. It's location in the city is prime for internships and the like. Best of luck!

Syracuse's prestigious Newhouse School of Public Communications offers Magazine Journalism. It's one of the top journalism/communication schools in the country, so I'd strongly consider it.

--By the way, networking and job placement is a big reason why I chose Syracuse. 96% of Newhouse grads go off to work in their fields straight from there, without having to go to grad school.

--Just remembered something. Syracuse has a strong Fashion program in the College of Visual and Performing Arts (VPA). While Newhouse kids cannot double major with VPA, there are communication majors in VPA that, I believe, you can pair with Fashion.

Jouraynalism:

Good suggestion about Syracuse - I actually graduated from the Newhouse school at Syracuse myself (and have been working in my major, tv-radio, all these years), and I think it would be perfect for my daughter in terms of her areas of interest. The only problem with Syracuse is that she prefers a much smaller college. She doesn't want to get lost in the crowd, and having attended Syracuse I know from experience that she's not going to get the individual attention from professors that she needs.
(However, my college roommate's son will start at Syracuse in the fall!)

Susan

Wow! Now I feel like I've been preaching to the choir. I'll be attending in the fall, as a freshman, as well.

Jouraynalism,

I didn't realize from your comments that you were just starting at Newhouse. Good luck to you!

Thanks. Yeah, I was also trying to convince MYSELF that I made the right decision. Telling other people about all the good things about SU helps make me think that I did.

Hey, I'm going to newhouse this fall too.
