Any information on fashion merchandising program at Udel? Does it make sense to choose this shool over FIT for more of a traditional college campus and college life? Thanks!

We toured both FIT and UDel this past summer. FIT has more name recognition in the fashion field, but their non-fashion courses are quite limited in selection and breadth. Our D was not impressed, and walked out of the orientation. UDel was a case of love at first sight for her, and their fashion merchandising program includes a year at FIT, so you get their name recognition on your diploma while enjoying a broad range of other courses and fields of study, as well as a traditional campus "feel" to the school. Our D will be attending UDel this fall. Good luck!

Thanks for your reply. We also loved Univ. of Delaware. Being from NY, FIT is so inexpensive. For the year that UDEL sends you to FIT are you paying UDEL tuition or FIT tuition? My D is torn between both schools. She will have an IB diploma and does want a challenging school but also wants to start making good contacts in her field.

You pay FIT, and not UDel for the year at FIT, and the UDel web site says that you pay in-state rates at FIT if you're a resident of NY. Our D also did the full IB program, and I think that's one of the reasons UDel won out - it just seems much more challenging and definitely has a lot more to offer than FIT. We figure between the year at FIT and an internship or two she'll have plenty of opportunities to make contacts.
