Do people at Northeastern care a lot about style and fashion? Are brand name clothes popular? I understand if jeans and sweatshirts are the norm for classes but what about at parties? Do people wear dresses and heels or just jeans and tanks?

This needs a bump

As far as brands, you’ll see lot of designer jeans, endless longchamp bags, a few louis vuitton here and there, but H&M, old navy, urban outfitters are more standard.

Guys are nearly always casual. Some guys will wear nicer button-up shirts when they go out, but even t-shirts are pretty acceptable.

Girls are a lot more varied. In class it’s always a range between sweats and a t-shirt to summery dresses or jeans and nice sandals, etc. Parties really just depend on where you’re going and the sort of people you hang out with. I have a group of friends who are really into the crazy house parties or nice bars, and they’ll get decked out in short dresses and heels. My other group of friends is much more laid back and when we go out it’s mostly just nice jeans and tank tops.

Whatever you wear, you probably won’t look out of place/over or underdressed. Unless you show up to a big party in sweats or to class in heels and a dress, no one is really going to notice.

And even when you’re decked out just walking around campus, no one really cares at all. There are always so many people in suits and formal outfits for interviews that no one thinks much of what you wear to class.
