<p>They made me use a No2 one last time i took the sat. Im not sure why, cuz they do have the same effect</p>
<p>I think its because mechanical pencils make you writing thinner than usual (could make it difficult for CB to make scans of your essay)</p>
<p>they think that you're going to poke through the score sheet with a mechanical pencil. that's what my proctor said about it. i'm not sure how you could do that, assuming that you keep your score sheet flat on your desk...</p>

<p>I used .5 lead and it didn't look significantly thinner at all, but then again I don't think I've used a wooden pencil in years. About half of my room ignored the no mechanical pencil rule.</p>
<p>mechanical = NO.2 unless your lead sucks (too light)</p>
