I googled and most people said Acer or Asus, two brands I'm not familiar with. Alienware claims they have the fastest but many people said they are just overpriced junks. So what do you think?

acer is shoddy quality and has sketchy customer support, asus is a smaller brand that i’ve heard decent things about, and alienware is a joke.

different builds are faster at doing different things too.

dell xps m1330 or 13" MBP lowest model. Fast as in specs or computer performance? Mac is fast in terms of response times but spec-wise, they aren’t as good as compared to the XPS series.

yeah if you put a decent ssd in any recent computer its going to seem very fast, but its not really going to perform any better. things will just load faster and it’ll feel more streamlined.

Or just 4GB ram will do also and a processor at least 2.0GHz

I would worry more about the keyboard/screen/build quality over processing power.

As far as gaming performance,
[Gateway - FX Edition Laptop with Intel® Centrino® 2 Processor Technology - P-7805u](http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=9172511&type=product&id=1218043606827)
pretty much owns anything under $2000. For other intensive tasks like video editing, it’ll also be one of the fastest laptops.

^^^that is actually pretty pro

I have an acer laptop, and it had a lot of problems:
-my brother dropped it once from two feet and the screen was permanently broken after that (now I have it hooked up to a desktop).
-I used to have to reboot every other time I started it up (this problem went away when my computer got cleared of everything on it…)
-My computer was cleared ov everything on it because I had to reboot the windows OS because of a progressively worse virus (this is probably the OS’ fault, but I don’t know much about computers so I don’t know for sure).
-It got extremely hot very quickly when I used it as a laptop.
-It freezes sometimes, especially when I go into Adobe PDF files (could be the OS, right?)
-It is kind of slow, especially if a whole lot of stuff is running (again, could be the OS, not sure).
-It’s large and heavy, not very attractive either.

That being said, it gets the job done and was a good laptop given the very low price. I’m sure if it hadn’t been dropped and if I hadn’t downloaded a bunch of crap it would have been completely servicable.

just to put it out there, acer has a very weak quality level. theres a reason why they’re the cheapest.

get the new 13" macbook pro. Now that they lowered the price, and they give you like $50 off for being a student, its a great deal. Plus you get a free ipod touch, so you can just sell that and then you computer will only cost you like 900 or something. Good luck with your purchase.

Acer has grown considerably lately, they’re actually the 2nd largest retailer now

The Gateway listed above is pretty beast but … Gateway?

The MacBook offer is quite nice, but I think you only get the touch if you’re actually going to college in September.

Just order it online in the student store… all you do is pick a college from a list and you get the student discount. They dont verify anything or check into it at all…

Um, why not Gateway?

For the record, I had the same impression as adrenaline. I was surprised Gateway still made anything, in fact. So, if you buy that, be prepared for everyone to ask you why you have a gateway.

Gateway is honestly the one for a cheap high quality gaming computer
