I hate the way BART takes about 1.5 hours to get from Downtown to Millbrae, and doesn't even offer an express/limited stop option.

Is there a way to get to the Caltrain station in San Francisco?

Yes. Stop at Powell Bart. You'll have to do some walking/biking down 4th street (look for old navy and ROSS) to reach the terminal caltrain station.

You would have to time yourself very carefully, of course, to hit the express trains.

The whole process will still take you a minimum of 1.5hrs.

Going by car should take about an hour (since they're 50 miles apart), if not more considering traffic, so by BART shouldn't take too much longer.

You can take BART to Union City and then catching the "DB" bus that goes straight to stanford. It's about a 2 hr trip door-to-door (not to Millbrae but to the stanford quad.)

There are also other busses from Fremont Bart (the "U" line) and Hayward BART (the "M" line)

Try the transit planner on 511.org

^ That's definitely the cheapest way ^

Fastest (besides car) has to be Bart -> SF caltrain express line though.
