fat girls [& guys]

Yeah, I agree with bobbobbob, I would rather be too skinny than too fat. Btw, what do you people consider to be fat? Are we talking very flabby or just on the chubby side? Like, a size 9, 15, 23, etc....?

when i see a fat person the first thing i think is that they dont care about their body. why on earth would i be attracted to someone who doesn't care about their own body? sure genetics and medicine play a part in being fat but only a small percentage of people actually have this problem. most people just want to sit on their fat ass all day, drink soda, and eat fast food.

yeah haha it IS better to be called anorexic than fat...not saying that's how it ought to be, but that's just how it is now in society.

anyway, if you're anorexic-looking, you can always do muscle-mass building exercises (like, not pilates/yoga but weight-lifting) and gain weight through healthy eating (ie, over 2200 cals per day).

if you're fat...it takes a LOT more work. it just does...so you lose hope. and not all people are built the same way. it's not fair to stigmatize fat peoplee or chubby people as having problems.

Not sure exactly what "pulling a Tyra Banks" would entail, but I think I'd need to grow about 7 inches and get implants..of course, the race difference is pretty much negligible :)

Im sorry but I am shallow as hell. A girl has to look good to have a chance...like leah said, curvy women...thats what I look for. You dont just go up and start talking to a fat person do you? No, you go up and talk to a fit person, one you're attracted to. Now if she's a ***** or something, I walk away...

Being fat, how can I put this...you have to WANT to get fit. I used to be pretty fat...195lbs with 27% body fat. I kept on going on these little mini diet things and nothing would work cuz id go straight back to junk. Then something just clicked...I consistently eat well, work out everyday, when I do go out with friends..I get the salad...its tough. I ate a slice of plain steak and veggies today while the rest of the family is eating chinese. But nothing changed until I WANTED it...even though I gained weight, up to 220...its down to 13% body fat. everyone has the potential to do it

being fat is unhealthy

your weight does not define you as fat or not...it's your BMI

BMI has nothing to do with being fat.

Yes it does. BMI tells you how much fat you have.

you're better off with a straight up body fat percentage, I'm pretty sure BMI factors other wierd **** in it, becuase I always see how BMIs are inaccurate (i believe they are too high, but maybe i'm wrong) for athletes and body builders, who if anything, would have less fat than a normal person.

Yes, they are incredibly inaccurate and useless. BMI has nothing do to with how much fat you have.

[quote]
Body mass index (BMI) A measure of body weight relative to height. BMI can be used to determine if people are at a healthy weight, overweight, or obese. To figure out BMI, use the following formula:

<a href="http://win.niddk.nih.gov/publications/glossary/bmiformula.gif%5B/IMG%5D">http://win.niddk.nih.gov/publications/glossary/bmiformula.gif

(weight in pounds times 703) divided by (height in inches squared)

A body mass index (BMI) of 18.5 up to 25 refers to a healthy weight, a BMI of 25 up to 30 refers to overweight and a BMI of 30 or higher refers to obese.

The word obese and fat share similar meanings.

<sarcasm>Perhaps this source isn't reliable enough. </sarcasm>

Yes. Body WEIGHT relative to the height. Not body FAT. Trust me, I have a BMI that is borderline obese, but I have next to no bodyfat. I think I know a BIT about fitness...

"your weight does not define you as fat or not...it's your BMI"

But you don't go up to a person and try to calculate their BMI to judge whether or not they are fat.

I'm not doubting your intelligence. I'm just bringing in a different perspective.

BMI generally is applicable to all those who think they are obese/fat.

Also, I believe there is another method to calculating your BMI besides using the height to weight ratio. You have to use a fat calper and read the measurements of fat and calculate those measurements. It's a lot more accurate for the body builders of CC.

Most people know that the scale is inaccurate. It takes NOTHING into consideration other than height and weight. Frame, bone size, muscular buildup etc etc, it's a pointless scale.

I think the average person would, regardless, be able to distinguish a body builder from one who is obese, and this thread, I believe, is focusing on people's perception of fatness.

The Hoke is right.

BMI sucks. Mine is relatively high, but I'm also quite strong, so I don't know what's up with that.

I wear, on average, a size 16, though it goes up and down with stores. It isn't easy. Overweight people do exercise, eat healthily, etc. Yes, I can stand to lose weight, and, yes, I am trying, but it totally sucks to be pre-judged. I guess I'm mirroring what Leah said.

The BMI scale is inaccurate for those who work out. Like those body builders. According to BMI, they may be considered obese, but they're really not. It's the muscle. So yes, the BMI thing can be inaccurate. It depends on your fitness.

I get accused of having an eating disorder all the time. Yes, it's just as hurtful. Yes, it makes me want to shove my fist in the accuser's face. However I'll admit I'd much rather be called anorexic than fat.

uhhhhh..........wow.
