I was just accepted to FAU for next fall in "pre business." The school itself sounds amazing but I am a little concerned about the major. I would like to focus on hospitality. It sounds like your core major only starts your junior year. Is this true? Any insight into this would be great!

Right… and it’s that way for ALL majors. Your underclassmen years (freshman, sophomore) covers the “core classes” of things like college writing, algebra, psychology and other elective stuff. Everybody does that in the first two years.

You CAN take dedicated classes from your major in your underclassmen years IF there are no prerequisites (and half or more of the classes WILL have prerequisites). Each degree has a list of required classes to take, and if you “jump the gun” and take major classes, then switch your major later, you may have “wasted” time on classes that no longer count towards your degree. That happened to me… lost a year because I jumped the gun.

I know a lot of people want to jump into their major right away with college. I know I did. But there is a system in place here to give you a well-rounded education and you’d be surprised what you actually use in the end.
