Hi! I am applying to the honors college in Jupiter, FL and was wondering about any opinions about it. I would like to hear any pros/cons you feel it holds. If it helps, I am seeking to do pre-med (which is why I applied, knowing they have a strong relationship with Scripps). Thanks in advance!

Pros: Smaller, tight-knit community of students. Housing and disc golf couse on campus. Safe neighborhood. Not far from the beach. More challenging courses than the main campus, obviously, and more one-on-one with professors. Physical connection with Scripps and Max Planck, although I’m not sure how much interaction you get as an undergrad. If that is your main pull there, I would follow-up with the school for specific examples and numbers of people getting involved there as an undergraduate.

Cons: Beyond the beach, bowling and the stuff on campus, not much to do for students in the area - Jupiter is more of a place for retirees to golf and shop. There are parks for canoeing and hiking, that’s kind of nice. No formal Rec Center or Student Union on campus. You’re a good 40 minute drive from the main campus too, where the football stadium, basketball arena and most Greek Life/student organization stuff takes place.

Some people think the Honors College is worth it, some don’t (they feel it’s too much work for too little reward). I got into medical school (as did a lot of my friends) from the main campus, so don’t think you have to go Honors College in order to get into medical school. Furthermore, the main campus has some great pre-med classes (Intro to Health Professions with Lab, Pre-med Studies, Shadowing Externship) that teach you about the medical profession, the admissions process and get you shadowing experience in different fields of medicine.

Good luck!
