FAU's Harriet L. Wilkes Honors College vs.UNF's Hicks Honors College Florida

Hello everyone, I am looking for some advice in regard to the two honors colleges where my daughter has been accepted. We are Florida residents and my daughter has been accepted into UNF Hicks honors college in Jacksonville and FAU Harriet L.Wilkes Honors college in Jupiter Florida for the fall term 2019. Unfortunately, I have not seen any active discussion about these two honors colleges in this forum. I will appreciate if someone could provide any insight of these two schools. My daughter is planning to pursue bachelor degree in business and we are looking for some recommendation from the current students in terms of ranking and curriculum. Thanks in advance.

FAU Wilkes is excellent for science but I’m not sure they even have business major.

They are both up and coming Florida public universities- congratulations and the honors colleges make a big difference.

I would say FAU and the honors college would be a great combination. And Jupiter is really a nice place to live. People spend millions to get a chance to live there lol.

I would agree with FAU. Jupiter is a beautiful place and the beach is only about 5-10 minutes from campus. If your daughter likes warm/hot weather year round, she will enjoy living in Jupiter. Below is a link to their UG business programs:

^ the problem is that Wilkes has its own campus and classes, separate from FAU, so that FAU’s business school does not apply.
There’s a business concentration, with a general business track and an Economics track.

They do have a partnership with FAU so that Wilkes students with a 3.0 GPA are automatically admitted to the MBA at FAU regardless of concentration.

Thanks for great feedback and prompt responses. I really appreciate it. Any comparison to UNF’s Hicks Honors College and University of South Florida (non-honor program) will be highly appreciated as well. My D received acceptance letter from the University of South Florida last week but we are concerned about big classes and student to teacher ratio.

She’ll have more small classes at Wilkes rather than Hicks. Hicks is more “fun”, with lots of cool special classes and projects.
I don’t think USF without honors is that worth it - your initial alternative (Wilkes or Hicks) was the right one.

We “have” a business major that is partially on a different campus, if that is how you want to spend your time. You might be assigned an Econ or Law advisor who tells you “just do econ all at this campus, it’s the same.” It is not.

@skylander : what did you decide in the end?

UNF is also only 15 minutes from the beach.
