Okay. I like a lot of music. Like a lot. Let’s break this up into genres. I listen to A LOT more, but these are my favorites–the ones that I either have dug deep into or plan on doing so in the near future.

As for older music, who doesn’t love the Beatles? I also love 60’s sunshine pop and psych, but I typically listen to those on vinyl exclusively. I also love power pop and new-wave, but anything from before 1990 I prefer to listen to on vinyl.

I also really like soundtracks and musicals. My favorite musicals are probably Assassins, The Book of Mormon, Chess, and Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson.

The Book of Mormon is a wonderful musical. As is Putnam County Spelling Bee.

My favorite movie soundtrack is Reznor and Ross’ for The Social Network. Great work music, too.

<3 journey and billy joel

The National
Arcade Fire
Snow Patrol
Passion Pit
Death Cab For Cutie

Scale the Summit

Between the Buried and Me

The Dillinger Escape Plan

Dream Theater

Liquid Tension Experiment

I’ve never heard of any of those, and I thought I knew music pretty well… Though I find that I know less and less every day.

Picking a favorite is super difficult. So a list of some favorites, in no real order:

-Tycho
-Washed Out
-Lord Huron
-Local Natives
-Pierce The Veil
-Deafheaven
-Gold Panda
-Hands Like Houses
-Motion City Soundtrack

-Explosions in The Sky
-My Dad vs Yours
-Geographer
-Neon Indian
-The Postal Service
-Rin Tin Tiger
-Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin

Oh, and Boards of Canada and Ulrich Schnauss are cool, but the former kind of terrifies me, lol.

@StudiousMaximus If you are talking about my list, they are all Progressive Metal bands, while Animals as Leaders, Scale the Summit, and Liquid Tension Experiment are instrumental.

Yeah, I was talking about yours. Nice to know.

@CalcCrunch: Anco, experimental or not, makes some incredibly catchy and engaging music. You should take a closer look!

@StudiousMaximus Oh I have, I’m a fan. I love the lyricism behind it all, I just meant I really appreciate the experimentation.

Glad to hear it! I saw them in concert two months ago, and it was surreal. I just about died when they played The Purple Bottle.

I listen to European pop music.

As far as my favorite goes (the ones who I listen to the most), it changes every month but there are a few constants

Kanye West (Yeezus despite popular opinion is a great album)
Nas
Jay-Z (MCHG was alright, but Jay is still my favorite rapper of all time)
Kendrick Lamar (I suggest everyone listen to good kid, mAAd city, the best reviewed album of 2012)
J. Cole (Even though his pen game fell off since Sideline Story/he dumbs it down for the albums)

Then there’s other artists like A$AP Rocky, Lloyd Banks, Miguel, Big Sean to an extent, Charles Hamilton, & I’m still playing that Dom Kennedy Yellow Album, and Drake & Schoolboy Q are supposed to drop hot albums this year, Fabolous’ Soul Tape 2 is still in rotation, Gucci Mane drops some guilty pleasures once in a while, James Blake is cool, the skreets are waiting on Self Made Vol. 3, Young Jeezy can still bring it once in a while, Problem is making noise, and of course Vampire Weekend is killing everybody right now.

I also tend to go through phases where I re-visit old stuff like Cam’ron & Dipset, Ma$e, MGMT, old Outkast albums, The Doors, UGK, etc. etc. I’m generally not into slow music but I dig the occasional mood where I can throw on some r’&b’ album or something

^ Totally agreed with you about Yeezus. It’s seriously great. I think Channel Orange might have gotten slightly better reviews than good kid last year, though.
