The thread on books being read in English classes inspired me...
What are everyone's favorite books?

Mine (in random order, because it is impossible to pick one, and if I did I would obsessively go back and change it) (except for the last one):

. To Kill a Mockingbird
. The Great Gatsby
. Screwtape Letters
. The Narnia series
. The Scarlet Pimpernel
. Gulliver's Travels
. ok ok...Harry Potter...at least until they turned depressing
. All Things Great and Small
. The Adventures of Tom Sawyer
. Black Beauty
. One Hundred Years of Solitude (not so much as a novel but Gabriel Garcia
Marquez is a phenominal writer)

and...drumroll...I don't care if it was written for first graders, it IS the best book in the world...

Happy as A Tapir!

I am going to remember a bunch more as soon as I post this. Oh well.
So give, people!

:) Jane Eyre
:) Slaughterhouse Five
:) Harry Potter (number V is the best!)
:) A Confederacy of Dunces
:) Brave New World
:) Animal Farm
:) The Great Gatsby

i will prob remember many more later

I Disliked:

:( The Awakening (by Kate Chopin)
:( Ethan Frome
:( Gulliver's Travels (not b/c of the story itself but b/c i had to analyze EVERY satirization in the entire book)
:( The Scarlet Letter

How do people feel about Catch-22, and 1984, i cannot decide which one to read...

Harry Potter 1, 2, 3, 4
Angels and Demons
the Stephanie Plum series, by Janet Evanovich
thriller books by James Patterson
Confessions of a shopaholic by some woman

yeah.. i'm not very classic booky. I'm more chic-lit oriented.. I'm thinking of reading Catch 22 or Catcher in the rye since everyone raves about them

To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee
The Chosen by Chaim Potok
The Poisonwood Bible by Barbara Kingsolver
All Quiet on the Western Front by Erich Maria Remarque
The Source by James Michener
Snow Falling on Cedars by David Gutterson
Catch 22 by Joseph Heller (awesome book, don't let anyone tell you otherwise!!)

Books I have seriously not enjoyed:
Frankenstein by Mary Shelley
The Metamorphasis by Franz Kafka (I really don't think I'm deep enough for Kafka)

anything written by kurt vonnegut is fantastic (see username for proof of enthusiasm). brave new world and 1984 were good, as was "lolita"...i haven't read enough lately, perhaps i'll have free time over winter break.

harry potter is the first "cult" series i've really gotten into.

in class, i particularly enjoyed "a tale of two cities", "the caine mutiny", "to kill a mockingbird", and many others i don't remember at the moment.

the little prince holds a special place in my heart.

oh, and jane austen irritates me, though i've been meaning to give her books a second chance.

I forgot Animal Farm and 1984. Ustas06, I have not read Catch 22 but 1984 is an awesome book. It is disturbing and scary but really good just the same...in a depressing way.

jane eyre
the great gatsby
antigone (I'm weird, but I find sophocles hilarious)
pride and prejudice (once again, I found it funny, especially the dad)
the bell jar
Harry Potter (3, 6, 1, 4, and 2/5 battle out for worst)
Angus, Thongs and Full-Frontal Snogging (well, all the confessions, really)
Crooked
Second Helpings
The perks of being a wallflower

Yes, I have such refined literature taste...

Animal Farm by George Orwell is my number 1 favorite, it is absolutely phenomenal

The rest of them:
Five People You Meet In Heaven by Mitch Albom
Smashed: A story of a Drunken Girlhood by Koren Zailckas - my type of writer, has all this cool insight
Angela's Ashes by Frank McCourt
Night by Elie Wiesel
My Antonia - Willa Cather - very sweet

Night (which is beautiful btw)
Lord of The Rings (ROTK is fave)
Pride and Prejudice
Chronicles of Narnia (LWW is the best)
The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy (I personally love Restaurant...)
Antigone (i'm so happy to hear someone else enjoyed this)
Nectar in a Sieve (... or maybe it was and a sieve...oh well)
Cat's Cradle
Rebecca
One Hundred Years of Solitude
Angels And Demons (davinci code is ok)

I don't think you can say dan brown is a "bad writer" I think his goals are just different, he wants the reader to go on a wild ride through his art history adventures, and he accomplishes that... making him a good writer for his audience. However, he is not like... shakespeare... and his language is so beautiful that it is almost more fun to read just to read the words than to follow the plot. thank you

Right now I'm almost finished with Gates of Fire, by Steven Pressfield, and GAH, I am in LOVE! It's about the Spartan stand at Thermopylae...if you're interested in history or miltary at all, read it.
