I thought we should start a thread for us Exeter lovers, and why we love it.:)

my parents actually liked andover more, but I LOVED exeter. i felt right at home when i stepped on campus and all the people i met were GREAT. the admission office was a mess, ill admit that, but the school was great. from the library to my totally enthusiastic tour guide to the the great academics, im in love. im so scared of boarding school and this is one of the only ones that im actually not too afraid to attend.

We were at Exeter interviewing yesterday late afternoon. There was a snow earlier so it was messy everywhere, they don’t seem to clear the side walk well, our shoes were all soaked after the tour, not to mention it was dark when we had the tour.

The thing surprised me the most is that they don’t have the same time sports in the afternoon. sports seem to spread out during the day and academic classes can run to as late as 5-6pm. I don’t know how many other schools are like this. Kind of odd to me.

Exeter is not everyone’s cup of tea, although it’s undeniably a premier institution. I remember our tour (unfortunately on a drizzly day). At the end, my daughter told me that it wasn’t for her and didn’t even want to complete the interview. It was that visceral. We apologized profusely to the admission’s secretary and then headed out.

Parlabane, sorry to hear that, but it is good that your daughter knows it is not for her right away.

Exeter is the only school my son apply as a boarder, he is not fond of boarding, but for Exeter, he would do it. Yesterday after our feet were soaked, I was secretly hoping that he would get discouraged a bit. But it didn’t happen. His interview with Mr. Gary, the director of admission office who is VERY nice, was the best interview he ever had and my husband and I enjoyed talking to Mr. Gary too.

I had Mr. Gary too! He was so nice and I had a great conversation with him. My favorite interview was with him.

Exeter is awesome!!!Everybody there was so kind and I guess because I went relativly earlier it wasn’t messy. I amnot going to say who my admissions officer was, but he/she was very funny and nice. The library was huge (and I LOVE reading) and my tour guide’s dorm and dorm room were very neat. It also happens that many people from my culture go there (by the way I am not asian…at all!!). :D

Here is a Poem, because I just thought of it {it isn’t that good i know}
Exeter you are so awesome
Exeter you are really cool
Exeter, I like how you look
I want to go to this school (Exeter).

I really wish id applied… to late now if i dont get in anywher ill apply next year

you could still apply as a late applicant. you really still have a chance as a late applicant

DON’T DO IT BLUE!!!
I absolutely had the worst interview ever at exeter. The interviewer was a total sports guy. you know the kind- only likes other sports guys. he didn’t even try to make conversation, totally one sided interview. Then some super-jock comes in right after me and he lights up like a christmas tree! this only reinforces my bias :(

It’s old and big. There are a lot of sports and activities. I enjoyed chilling the third floor of the library, though I never really looked at any of the books. The dorms are small and generally nice. They have a cooler boathouse than andover.

Boohoo Rad…well I loved my interview with Mr.Gary…I’m sorry you didn’t have. I had a similar problem at SPS.

first off, my interview with Mr. Gary was amazing, he’s so nice and definitely asks the right questions and knows how to learn a lot about you. I just had my Andover interview and I can’t say the same. Yes, it was with a coach but I’m an athlete (not recruited) and can still say he was very boring and wasn’t a good interviewer. Not only that, but judging by what my mom told me that he told her, he wasn’t even listening to me. He was just catching the jist of what I was saying and in some cases completely misinterpreted me because he wasnt paying attention

Exeter is my favorite Boarding school too. I guess it kind of has to be though because I go there. I agree bout the whole not clearing the sidewalk well though, Its really annoying walking through it everyday

almost there, messy sidewalks are not only seen at Exeter, I would say SPS is worse because they are muddy too!

Can you comment on the sport time not being all together in the afternoon? It doesn’t bother you? where do you find time to social?

That’s the fun of it.

I like that exeter has those big red crosswalks, and the cars usually stop for you.

Is it coincidental that we are all getting Mr. Gary???DETrombone, did you have him your first year appying?

well maybe thats why you all like exeter and I don’t. grumblegrumble stupid basketball coach…>{

About the sports: It doesn’t really bother me that sports are spread out. and actually fall term I don’t think they’re spread out at all. I’m pretty sure fall term all sports including club sports (with the exception of prep spaz which meets in the morning 4 times a week) are during the EF block which are the two class periods after lunch. Winter term sports are different though because sports are either EF or GH (GH are the last two class periods of the day). I’m not really sure why but I think it might be because in winter all of the sports are indoor so like there’s not enough space to have both guys and girls varsity and jv practice at the same time. Like swimming I know boys have it EF and girls have it GH. I don’t think there is enough room in the pool to have them all swim together.

rad who did you have? I had a basketball coach too, I think. He didn’t like me much so I am assuming I won’t get accepted. He didn’t even talk to my parents.
