Favorite (Musical) Artists?

AC?DC, Guns n’ Roses and Iron Maiden are my favorite bands currently. Why? Cuz they kick ass.

My very favorite artist right now is Jonathan Coulton. He’s a really brilliant, amazingly talented singer/songwriter whose lyrics are ridiculously creative and inspired. I stumbled upon him by watching an AMV based on “Re: Your Brains,” an amazing song about zombie office angst.

Definitely look him up if you’re into that kind of thing.

Mmm my top 4 would have to include:

Regina Spektor: Fell in love with the song Samsom and that was that. I’m a piano player and I think the songs are just beautiful and ecclectic.

Prince: I’ve been listening to so much Prince lately, it’s insane. haha Purple Rain is probably my favorite album ever made. He’s just so fun and I consider him a musical genious- he has such an extensive catalog of work. Don’t write him off as that ‘weird dressing symbol guy’.

Death Cab for Cutie: <3333 The songs are so soft and beautiful and quirky. I wish I could write like that.

Toots and the Maytals: If you like Bob Marley, you’ll love them. They are what inspired him. Such fun, upbeat reggae.

and rounding it out- The Fratellis, The White Stripes, Michael Jackson, Queen, The Shins, Anberlin and Jimi Hendrix.

littlemermaid and lavieboheme-
 I love RENT so much. Saw the movie and immediately had to see the play (and I did). Are you guys planning to catch Anthony and Adam on the RENT tour 2009?

liv3yourlif3-I saw Adam and Anthony twice during their run on Broadway (including their last night) and they were amazing! I might try to catch them on tour-depends on where they play.

Speaking of, Rent is how I got into Adam Pascal’s music, but I’m not so thrilled with some of his newer songs.

Procrastinating after APs hehe…

OASIS – I love the Gallagher brothers, despite their controversial rock star lifestyle. But seriously, Oasis is my god. There hasn’t been a single band that’s written as many songs I like as Oasis.

NELLY FURTADO – Coincidentally enough, Nelly Furtado considers Oasis her idols. I think her tunes are somewhat eclectic, which I like, and she’s one of the few artists who can pull off sweet, mature, and sexy.

THE GOO GOO DOLLS – I fell in love with these guys ever since I heard “Iris” (just like most of their fans). They’ve gotten pretty mainstream but if their only decent song was “Iris,” I’d still love them.

MAROON 5 – Especially everything on It Won’t Be Soon Before Long, which I actually like better than Songs About Jane. Such a unique sound.

MATCHBOX TWENTY – Pretty much defined post-grunge.

SARAH McLACHLAN – If MB20 defined post-grunge, then Sarah McLachlan defined 90s pop. Her voice is absolutely beautiful with its rich qualities and her songs are really deep.

I also like Snow Patrol, Lifehouse, Jewel, Dashboard Confessional, Coldplay, the Arctic Monkeys, Gwen Stefani & No Doubt, RHCP, Savage Garden, and yes I’ll admit it…Backstreet Boys. ;)

well classics like the beatles, the clash, etc, i don’t really remember. haha.

Arctic Monkeys: friend who is from england loves them, so I heard it from him. first song I heard was Fake Tales of San Francisco I think. they’re awesome. i’m obsessed. and alex turner is a god (<< and that’s actually the name of a facebook group)

Vampire Weekend: they were in teen vogue! lol I didn’t like A-Punk much, but I loved Mansard Roof and basically the rest of their album.

The Fratellis: the ipod commercial. 'nuff said.

Radiohead: XM radio introduced me

Kate Nash: she was in teen vogue, too. Foundations is a really cute song to sing along to

Muse: one of radiohead’s “contemporaries” according to Itunes. amazing live performances. and you can’t NOT like Starlight.

RHCP: i’ve listened to them for quite a while, but I only really got into them cause my friend had their cd and would play it 24/7

Nirvana: hey, same story as anna!

Oasis: my bff introduced me to them, although I’d unknowingly been listening to Wonderwall for years

The Strokes: my older cousin is in love with them, now, I am too =)

Regina Spektor: my bff’s dad interviewed her (he’s a radio DJ), and she has a song called Rockland County!

According to last.fm~

Clap Your Hands Say Yeah
M83

I guess I’m (musically) an indie kid. :)

Linkin Park, Michael Jackson, Def Leppard, Journey, Madonna, Prince, Eminem, Diddy, Nelly Furtado, ?Timbaland?

Weird Mix of bands and rappers really:

J Dilla
Explosions in the Sky
Common
Muse
Jimi Hendrix
Angels & Airwaves

nelly (not furtado), jay z, kanye west, yellowcard, o.a.r. to name a few

pretty much open to anything

I see so many of these threads but always post in them.. anyway

~Radiohead
~Pavement
~Sigur Ros
~ Gogol Bordello
~Pink Floyd
~Sublime
~Operation Ivy
~ Streetlight Manifesto
etc..etc

I personally find Muse to be a bit repetitive, although as long as I listen to them scarcely then they are fine. They do put on a good live show though.

The Weepies, Islands, and Vampire Weekend are my top 3 currently
