Yup. I believe there is one on Bancroft.

Brazil Cafe ghetto? Maybe it is, maybe it isn't- who cares? The food is really good. :)

My picks:

For late night munchies, study breaks, or a quick lunch:
La Burrita
Top Dog
Blondies/Fat Slice
Kingpin Donuts

For general eating needs:
Gypsys
Mandarin House
Steve's Korean
Yokohama Station
Cafe Intermezzo/Raleighs (They serve the same food as they share a kitchen.)

Recent Discovery:
House of Curries, which I think beats Naan and Curry.

What I want to try:
Chez Panniese (probably mispelled)
The Brazil Cafe
Saul's

The Den.

jk

I go to both, but infequently. The food's identical, you say, because they're from the same kitchen? This just doesn't seem true . . . hmmm. Well, they do have different menus, right? I've never seen anybody get a burger at Internezzo, and I don't think they serve them. I do think they share some food, such as the pies.

The jury is out in my mind as to which is better, but personally i like my Indian food a little more . . . high quality, I guess, food snob I pretend to be or am. Garlic naan which is just white naan covered in garlic powder doesn't cut it, House of Curries. shakes head

And this is why you gain the "freshman 15." Top dog is disgusting. I think the guy who works at the durant location injects his steroids into the links. I'm kidding.

On a lighter note, crossroads is EXCELLENT for breakfast and the tea at house of curries is AMAZING.

andrewtdx, you have the right idea for new places to eat. Brazil and Saul's are both great. Everyone knows Chez has amazing food with high prices, just don't let the quality get over hyped for you. Their best food has amazing fruit in it, like the desserts, and some of the entree's.

I would like to add that Pyramid Brewery kicks ass. The food by itself is great. The beer could stand on its own too.

Finfine Ethiopian food. Yum.

For special occasions - especially if you are with parents, etc., Chez Panisse upstairs and Cesars (Spanish inspired, small plates, good drinks, buzzy atmosphere), next door, are great choices. No reservations at Cesars. Chez Panisse downstairs is expensive but very special -- I took my son there for his graduation from UC Berkeley and it was a treat for us both.

Thai food around Berkeley is plentiful but lacking in quality. I haven't found a good Thai restaurant yet (I tried about 6). La Burrita and Gypsy's are probably my favorites for food on the go. Camille on Hearst is ok if you're stuck at Etcheverry or Soda. But when I need to kill mealpoints, I order a sandwich from the Den and buy two Odwalla's per day. I burned about 200 mealpoints last month on Odwalla alone.

Crossroads makes me sick only because I feel obligated to get my money's worth and end up gorging on about 2000 calories of pizza, mongolian beef, crappy grilled chicken, and various concoctions.

I will say that the best thing I ate in Berkeley so far was a chocolate/strawberry crepe from Telegraph.

For late night (weekends), these are the only picks-- everything else is closed. :D

Cha-Am's didn't cut it for you, or the Thai House?

It's called Crepes A Go Go.

I'm a little hooked on the Banana, strawberry and nutella at Crepe's a Go-Go.

house special ! (turkey, egg, cheese)
