Favorite Programming Language?

Mine has to be between Java and C++

Scheme.

What’s life without an overabundance of parentheses?

Java, cause I know some Javanese words

Why would you pick those? Is that what your school offers?

I like (()())(((()())()()))))()) too, but I can’t decide between it and Perl for my absolute favorite.

Well, I know a little Java and a little Python. I like Java better, although I don’t know enough to tell you why lol

Java, then C.

School offers java and visual basic. I taught myself c++

For large projects:

C++ or Java

For quick fun scripts or mid sized stuff:

Python

For learning:

assembly

And I thought MIT would prefer the likes of Ada.

icwutudidthar

I prefer writing in machine code.

Java is for mediocre people, you know.

See Paul Graham’s essay: [Java’s Cover](<a href=“Paul Graham”>Java's Cover)

==

Anyways, mine’s Python (for now). And I like MATLAB and R too

That was beautifully done.

MATLAB is fun. So is mathematica.

haXe = favorite
C = 2nd favorite

^ C is absolutely beautiful.

For those of you who learned a computer language through self study, how did you do it? Where did you start? My school does not offer any computer classes, but I am very interested in Java, C++…

If you’re new to programming, then for practically any language, start with variables, arrays, if statements, for and while loops, functions, and text input/output. Once you’ve finished that, it depends on the language. In C++, for example, you could then learn about pointers, classes, structs, unions, inheritance, namespaces, typecasting, file input and output, etc. I don’t know much about Java though. I learned C++ using nothing but the internet, so all you really have to do is find a compiler/interpreter and a website with information on basic programming in the language you choose.

Learning Java through school…don’t know any others. Therefore, I prefer Java.

Visual Basic is where it’s at.
