I used that with my kids during college app season.

That’s a good one! I used it all the time when coaching sports. Mainly to myself when I would have a kid who had great natural ability but didn’t show the effort. Used to drive me crazy until I bought in to my own saying. Then it would result in another saying previously mentioned, “It is what it is”.

“If you’re not cheating, you’re not trying.” - Heard that from Jessie “The Body” Ventura years ago on a pro wrestling show, and thought it was pretty funny.

“Everyone wants to fix the housing crisis, but they only want it fixed in other people’s neighborhoods” - We have lots of NIMBY vs YIMBY battles here along the California coast.

“The less you know, the more you think you know.” - Kinda along the lines of “Ignorance breeds confidence.”
