favorite UNC moment (your chance to brag about your school :))

for anyone who's attended, currently attends or has visited UNC, what has been your favorite moment/event/experience there? its a big school and i'm just looking to see what have been some people's highlights :)

I have had several kids go through Carolina....some faves--
Halloween on Franklin street. (a unique tradition since the 80's);
Franklin street celebrations after big victories (like any sport over Duke, or National Championships;
Early morning in the arboretum,
late night anywhere on campus,
standing on old campus at the old well realizing that for over 200 years young men and women have come through this campus to learn, to grow and to have fun;
painting the street carolina blue (they now do not sell carolina blue paint anywhere close to the campus on big game weekends. I hear.),
the P2P (late night shuttle bus that runs to 2:a.m. aka Party bus),
The pit just about anytime. (including the pit preachers)

some are born tarheels, some are bred tarheels but some become tarheels simply by choice.

Check out this video on Youtube http://youtube.com/watch?v=kOCqEehsZso

P.S. Did I mention when I visit I get so excited and smile whenever I see a carolina blue firetruck?

well ive only been here for about a month or so, so i dont have very many moments to choose from haha..but i guess heres a few..

-meeting ppl @ ctops and saying "hey...i know you from facebook..." awkward
-clubbing on franklin street..and then riding the p2p @ 3 am, always interesting.
-realizing that danny green sits behind me in class
-danny green speaking to me.
-walking by marcus ginyard and deon thompson.

god im such a groupie.
pathetic.
:P

random moments on my hall, like the dance party that happened tonight. we all put on spandex and busted out our crappy dancing skills.

the beautiful weather, walking through the arboretum to classes...

watching people all simultaneously dance the superman at a fraternity a couple weeks ago.

slumber parties i've had with some of the girls on my hall

class discussions

you can find good stuff like this anywhere, but i feel like something about unc's special. take a visit. :)

lol dance party!!

forgetting how big UNC is after running into someone you know every time you walk through the pit.

Isn't that weird? I see the same people ALL THE TIME! I didn't think that'd happen. I'm actually wondering if our freshman class is bigger than 100 people.

Quite honestly, some random alcohol-fueled incidents that follow with "you had to be there"

And I totally agree with "cloying" (haha) because I really really feel like the whole freshmen class is connected in some way. Like just today I learned that some girl in my panel for my poli sci class is friends with some random person in Ehaus South, who knows my friend's roommate, who knows an entire group of people I'm friends with. And one of my friends from here met some girl I went to camp with 3 years ago (and I'm from out of state) when they were watching Brother Micah...it's crazy.

My freshman year there were several large snowstorms (in terms of North Carolina, anyway). I lived in Hinton James, and Skipper Bowles Drive was really icy. People took the picnic tables that were down by the basketball courts and used them as sleds on Skipper Bowles! Seeing Franklin Street and the whole campus covered in snow was gorgeous (even more so because it happens so rarely). Classes were cancelled for a couple days, so we went and "found" some trays from Lenoir and took them out behind Ehringhaus, near the frisbee golf course, and used them as sleds on a pretty steep hill. We were there with a couple dozen other people who were using everything from inner tubes to construction barrels to a small boat (!) to slide down this icy hill. The atmosphere was almost deliriously happy. That snowstorm really helped to lighten up freshman year, which seemed quite bleak at times (at least it did to me).

So many other memories are really precious to me, but they mostly relate to my friends and I interacting with each other (having Carolina as the constant backdrop). In Atlmom's video, for every scene, every building that was in the video, I had a really neat memory- I'd even seen some of those events in person! In my opinion, no other college experience could possibly rival the one that UNC and Chapel Hill offer.

One other thing I'd like to mention- some of my favorite memories of Carolina didn't even take place on campus. Studying abroad was one of the best decisions I made at UNC, and I highly recommend that every Tar Heel on this board take advantage of the amazing opportunities that UNC Study Abroad provides. If you want some specifics, you can PM me.
