Fantastic !! Loved my four years there and came out very prepared for life. Women’s colleges do wonders for self-esteem and independence.

I wish I could choose :(.
I’ve applied to three: Bryn Mawr, Smith, and Wellesley.
My Bryn Mawr interview was so great and made me really enthusiastic, plus I have a friend who goes there and loves it.
Two of my cousins went to Smith, but I haven’t really found anything that makes me adore it yet. I was trying to get an interview and the alumna for my area wasn’t actually in my area but in NYC, and so when I contacted her, she was really nice and apologetic and said really great things about Smith. I then called the admissions office and the woman I spoke to was pretty unfriendly and definitely not accommodating.
I really like Wellesley because the academics seem really awesome, but in terms of the student body and what kind of community it fosters, I’m not sure.
So Bryn Mawr gets points for student body/life and campus, Wellesley for academics, and I’m not sure about Smith.

Across the street from Notre Dame. Despite the weather, I think it should be on any list of top all women’s colleges.

HeartLikeASocket, i had the same experience when i called Smith.the woman at the receptionist initially sounded a little bit unfriendly like she was rolling her eyes half the time i was asking her questions (even tho i couldn’t see, merely hyperbolic ranting on my part here)

but after awhile, i thanked her profusely anyway, and she was suddenly very nice and asked me about my accent, where i was from lol and ended up ensuring that my message gets through.

so i guess, your experience was situational, like mine

Sorry you both had semi-difficult phone experiences. Try to remember that Smith, like all admissions offices, gets many many calls per day and the receptionists get the brunt of them, even though they are the least equipped to handle them (they’re the receptionist, not the direct of admissions, after all). But still they try to be nice and polite to everybody, but everyone is human.

I hope you both get a chance to visit Smith and find out what an awesome place it is from the people that live and study there. And if it’s not the place for you, well, sounds like you have some other awesome favorites.

I’d like to put in a plug for my Alma Mater-- Mount Holyoke!

No question we have the most beautiful campus.

really all the sciences? It was fantastic when I went there in the 70’s.

@pyewacket…I actually would question that. But let’s not get into Smith vs. Moho bickering, it never leads to anything good. Yay seven sisters!

lol SnP, yay seven sisters indeed. i’d be extremely happy if i could get into ANY ONE of them!

Smith College!
I had a great experience at Smith. What I really like the most even now is the bond that is formed by not just Smithies but the Seven sister’s network. I got my internship through a Smith grad and I feel comfortable calling any Smith alums. Life long friendship and support is great.
When I joined a Fortune 50 company after B School, I got a call from the my company’s President’s office because his wife, a Smithie, wanted to invite me to a Smith Club event. I really appreciated it as I was in a new city.

Barnard and Scripps are tied for my faves. Scripps because I just visited, and the campus was GORGEOUS, and the weather was amazing, and the students were so much friendlier than at those cold northeast schools. Plus the rest of the 5 C’s were beautiful as well. Barnard because it’s in NYC and next to Columbia, duh.

J, did you apply to any? :D

I applied to Scripps, but that’s the only women’s college I applied to.

Wellesley College. Great school for female academics. I recently got accepted. You may contact me via AIM, since I rarely respond to messages posted on this website. My screenname is ninnerx3.

SMITH!!! All the way!

Mount Holyoke
Go Class of 2014!

Agnes Scott College is an amazing school. Even though it’s a little underrated.

I am a parent of a daughter who is looking at colleges that are located up and down the east coast. She is interested in Bryn Mawr. If you attended BMC would you be kind enough to share why you chose to go there.

I’m interested in going to a women’s college and I’ve visited Wellesley and Smith so far. It seems like a majority of the posters here favor Barnard. Why is that? I heard that people who attend Columbia discriminate against students at Barnard, because the student still gets the degree from Columbia while applying and getting into Barnard is easier? How is the Barnard experience different from that of Columbia’s?

I wouldn’t say that the majority here favor Barnard, I think it’s pretty widely distributed across the whole thread.

But I have no idea how Columbia students treat Barnard women. I do think it’s accurate that it’s easier to get into Barnard than Columbia, though Barnard is no cakewalk.
