Favorite Word Essay Question

After writing my essay on a word that I really like, I realized that it doesnt really talk about me or my interests and that it might have been more helpful to take a word associated with something like fashion and just write about my interests.
I'd really prefer not to rewrite my whole essay though.

Do you think its ok if the essay basically just focuses on how i found the word and that I really like its literal meaning and I talk about the sound and connotation? I guess it kind of suggests an interest in language...

=/

alamode, i’m definitely not an expert and/or an award-winning writer, but I think if your essay is well-written and action-filled, you will be okay. don’t worry if your interests aren’t represented, because i don’t think the admissions officers will know the difference. just write what comes to you and make sure everything is worded well!

hope that helped!

Ask your self this; does it answer the question? How did that word challenge you?

first of all, if an action filled essay means a lot of onomatopoeia like “kapow!” and “wowza!” I certainly failed. A friend of mine at UVa wrote about a tree in the middle of the day in his backyard. He got in. Your essay should show the story you’re writing. If it just narrates, then it’s no good.

hmmm…

I think it says something about you. you’re thinking too hard about this. As vistany said, ask yourself, does it answer the question? Look at the prompt question and look at your answer. If the answer is yes, great! If the answer is no, well, tweak it.

dbl: what i meant by action-filled was making sure that the reader was enticed by the essay.

do you guys think i could write about two related words and make THAT my favorite word?

I think i’m keeping it, because it answers the question, and does show a bit of intellectual curiousity

I’m not sure ZAE, since they do ask for a favorite word (singular). but if you think its good, answers the question, and is the best addition to your app, then it should probably be fine, i can’t speak for the admissions office but i’m guessing their not too nitpicky about the details…they just want a better view of you as an applicant.
