FB to MV timing

My "S" will be taking a class that ends @ 3:35pm in the ESIA. He has to get to MV ACAD for a 4:10PM class - 35".

Is this feasible @ this time of day?

Aprreciate quick response - registration tomorrow.

If your “S” is timely then it should NOT be a big problem. The Vern Express runs contuinuously at that time, and each trip takes about 15, DC however is notorious for traffic and the 15 minute ride and turn into 25 depending on both traffic and if a bus has just left.
I has a similar position last semester and for the most part I was fine, with a few appearences 5-10 minutes late.

In addition, Vern teachers tend to understand if you are late, and don’t punish you.

CJ:
i know i’m just a mom of an incoming freshman too, and hopefully actual students/parents will provide you (and me) with an answer too, but i did read somewhere on the GW site that students should allow for at least 30 minutes to get to a MV class and then they listed the rush hour times to be careful about - i didn’t committ them to memory, but i do recall being very surprised at how long the morning and afternoon rush hours lasted. based on that concern i recommended to my daughter that she not take the UW20 which only left her 35 minutes between those two classes.

again - hopefully some folks with actual experience will chime in here as i’d love to hear the answer too!

CJ - my D will be registering tomorrow too - feel free to PM me with any tips you come across through the process. and i’ll do the same, if you like!
:)

1sttimemom - I’m inclined to agree that 35 min is not enough time to get from the Elliott School - to the Vern Shuttle on FB - to MV. He’ll just have to take the later class - it’s not like he’s going anywhere!

Hope registration goes OK tomorrow for you as well. I’m concerned a lot of sections for traditionally “Freshman” courses like UW20 are already full. Don’t quite understand how that’s so?

CJ

me neither… but i’ve just chalked it up to one of the many mysteries of doing this for the first time…
:)

glad to hear your S got many of the classes he wanted!

I would probably want to allow more time than that if taking the Vern shuttle. Especially because ESIA classes are 1hr 50 minutes long (in the middle of dinner) S may want to grab some food between classes

That’s going to be pushing it.

Even if the shuttle picks the up in front of the building (I’m not sure where the shuttle stops this semester), it still will be cutting it far too close.

They WILL be late on more than one occasion. Seriously, that’s up against rush hour traffic. Unless absolutely unavoidable, don’t do it. And it’s far better to keep your classes all on one campus if you can- commuting with the shuttle and going back and forth too much is a PITA.

OK. How about am rush going the other way? If you live on the Vern and have an 8 am class on FB what time do you need to leave? Is the lead time different for a 9 am class?

Leave at 8 or 8:15 if living on MV to get to FB in time. You’ll be early sometimes, but rush hour is tricky, and you still have to walk to whatever building your class is in. Leaving 8:30 would be about the latest.

Thanks gwgrad. I presume you are talking about the 9am class . Twice a week there’s an 8am class. :frowning: Does that mean leaving MV at 7:15 or is traffic a little lighter then?

7:30 would generally be ok, unless you have to walk far across campus.

At times, the shuttle will be late.

If there’s an exam at 8 a.m., leave at 6:45, or 7 at the LATEST.

Rush hour is usually 7-9, then again 4-6:30.
