Hey everyone, I'm interested in starting a FBLA club in my school. I think we used to have one, but it was full of seniors who have since graduated. I'm interested in business so I think joining the FBLA will give me some good insight into business and look good for when I apply to business schools. My question is, what is FBLA (not the acronym itself...) and what do you do as a member/club? Thanks in advance.

ere is how FBLA works in PA and for the most part elsewhere: It’s basically a competition in a business related category e.g. Help Desk (I did this event last year), Global Business, Impromptu Speaking, Business Math, Networking Concepts, Word Processing, Sports Management, etc. (there are a BUNCH more that you can find on FBLA’s website). Most are individual events, but some can be team events, up to 3 in most cases. There’s generally 3 levels. There’s the regional level where you have to place in either the top 5 or so to compete at the state level where you have to place in the top 2 to compete in nationals. Some events can only be done at the state level in which case you’d bypass the regional level. Most tests consist of a multiple choice done on computer and, more so at the state/national levels, there may be a oral part. What you learn about business would just be from studying your event, not much else. I only made it to the state conference, which was held in a large hotel/conference center, and it was a good experience plus it’s always good to have a shot at winning something.

Deca>fbla.

Thanks Dblazer, what is DECA?

I don’t know much about DECA but I believe it’s FBLA’s equivalent in some states.

DECA mucho greater than FBLA.

consider googling your state and deca chapter “New York Deca” or “Wisconsin DECA,” it should give you the website of your state association which will help you set up the chapter.

DECA is the best. There is no club that will prepare you for real life business like deca, especially if you are meticulous and love thinking on your feet.

Good luck!

I’m in FBLA on paper. We don’t do anything.

I like the sound of that…
