Fear of massive student loans

Good luck!

Go through your FAFSA print out with a fine tooth comb and make sure you made no mistakes first.

Thanks! I will!

Look to make sure you have not entered anything twice- the FAFSA online has more checks and balances which pops up the same question more than once when your answer is odd to it. This resulted in my reporting double income on my D by also putting it in the spouse spot! And I have been fafsaing for 5-10 years and 3 kids, so I have done it a time or too.

This years checks and balances made it a bit confusing for me- go over your numbers with a fine toothed comb and correct any errors, but also let the school know what you are doing

Good Luck, I hope you find the error, and I also hope that the school comes up with something other than loans to make up any possible difference. Don't forget that next year your daughter's income may come in lower (workstudy income is not included in FASFA calculations) plus with the 17K gone that should lower the EFC as well. Let us all know the outcome.....

jjcddg... I'm hoping the school will work with us a bit more, they have been really "kind"??? for lack of a better word, any time I or my daughter have called with all our questions. I'm hoping that next year comes in much better as you said. It's good to know that workstudy income does not count, that will certainly help, as well as the college savings being pretty much depleted.
Thanks to all for your kind words and ideas. Shame it always seems to come down to money!

Will your daughter be working summers to help pay her costs? Or are you counting that in the $$$ you will come up with yearly??? If she works summers and maybe a little more than work study during the year, that will help SOME.

Her daughter had 5400 in income last year so she is probably planning on working summers.

Yes, my daughter will probably be working over the summer. She's also trying for a bunch of outside scholarships.
