Fear Of Racism

Uh, make friends with the asians?

dude, i love asians, they my homeboys. I don't know if it'll be the same if i move to some other hood, but i definitely love azns, they dope and tight.

^ nice to know that someone appreciates us. =)

There's never that kind of violence in our school. Our school's very diverse in terms of ethnicity, but in terms of race, the number of black people is very low.. 7 people? in the whole school. But no one's racist to them because our school has the blacks-are-so-cool attitude where rappers are their god. Our school's so weird. We have many indians and they call themselves black. And everyone (all races) joke around when teacher's pick on them - "just cos i'm black" - and everyone starts laughing.
There are some white racists in the school but no one likes them because being racist is not cool in our school. There are minor stuffs like umm calling one asian when they dont know their names ('hey asian guy, help me with this').. i dont even think that's a form of racism. 'Go back to your own country' is very middle school.

I think deep down, we are all racist to a certain extent. We all have our preconcieved notions and may sometimes subconsciously apply these ideas in our encounters with others.

I agree. I think most people to some extent have racist tendencies, but it depends on how much and whether or not it is antagonistic in nature.

"Man, maybe i should wear make up and pretend i'm gay so knowone will accuse me of something i didn't do. "

believe me, you dont want to know what it is liked to be gay. i mean, it feels great :D (haha) but you dont get treated well by the people around you..your family...your friends...your teachers...everyone.

(of course there are exceptions)

haha yah i don't think thats the best solution

This probably isn't a racist scenario, but in my school I am a very underrepresented minority (in fact, my brother and I are the only asians). Strangely, most of the caucasians respect and sometimes (at least in my point of view) even seem in awe of us.

Of course, it could be that they are laughing behind our backs.

Not a lot of racism at my school. 50% Hispanic, 50% White...there aren't any blacks and a very small amount of asians.

My friends and I are always jokingly racist to each other. Sometimes conversation ends up being just a large chain of racist comments to each other. And since we're quite diverse, it ends up being really weird.

The behavior of those people in no way tainted my image of Mexicans, in fact a year after their harassment, I went out with a Mexican. I do not let the behavior of a few mean-spirited people determine how I view a whole race, because you can't generalize a whole race, because there are just too many people. I hope that you don't think that all black people are racists. Black people do community service, help the kids, and etc.,too..

I go to a K-12 school, so I've grown up with the same people.
When you're in 5th grade, you go to church with a kid from kindergarten and you 'watch over them'. A black girl at my school, had a white kid and the kid didn't want to hold her hand. When the black girl asked why, she said, "Because you're black."

that's quite sad...to the post above...

i get really mad when i hear stories of black ppl being racist, youd think after all the trouble theyve been through with race, they would be very heartfelt to other minorities

Did you read my story??? Did you read my comment about how people shouldn't generalize a race? I get sick and tired of people thinking that black people have it "easy", that they don't work hard, that they are lazy, that they are racists, and all that other b u l l s h i t.

Personally, I've never (ever) had a racist slur aimed at me, and in return, I try to never make anyone feel badly about who they are. My heart goes out to the people who have experienced such verbal cruelty; I believe that a person's value comes from their actions and not their enthicity.

^ What movie did'ja get that from? :)

sounds like Martin Luther King's I have a Dream Speech...

a bit too idealistic...

get with the times man...

** I'm Korean, but niggers call me chink all the time, and i really dont like it. I got some Korean pride yo.**

I am not even going to respond to this...the ignorance speaks for itself.

To all those who faced discrimnation from black people, it's sad but what else can be done. As for other minorities who experienced prejudice it is a sad thing. I agree with siren in that you shouldn't let the the actions of a few individuals dictate how you treat a whole group of people. I have been called names and joked by people before, but seriously don't let it get you down. Don't let some ignorant punk have influence over you.

As for reverse racism...there is no such thing as it...I know it is hard to believe but it doesn't exist. You can experience prejudice from a minority but not racism-well in the US you can't. Racism is based on a system of power and is comprised by the individuals who hold the most power and influence within a society...minorities do not hold that type of power.
