I see the Macy*s ad to the side on this thread showing all kinds of comforters and mattress toppers.

I have a featherbed on my bed at home, and my S has a fiberbed at college. Both are great! I love the cushy feeling, and I like knowing my athlete has a really comfy place to bed down at night.

I would probably go fiberbed – and probably go as cheap as possible and plan to replace as needed. Dorm use can be tough on bedding …

Has anyone seen any of these in XL?
So far I can only find regular twin sizes. My son has a Pacific Coast featherbed here at home, but I don’t even see that brand anymore.

^^^ BB and B had both fiber and featherbeds in twin XL as of a month or so ago, but they may be gone, now. If they are out, you can probably order online or have them tell you if there is another store in the area that has them in stock.

Toledo, be sure to look in the clearance section at BB&B. I think our store currently has fiberbeds and foam mattress toppers on a clearance rack outside, in the clearance section inside, as well as having the standard twin length in the regular bedding part of the store. If you have to order, you can bring along a coupon and have them place the order for you at the store. That way you can still get a discount, although you will have to pay shipping.

Zip - a fiberbed is essentially an synthetic featherbed. It is filled with “pillow stuffing”, and is about 3-4 inches thick. It just sits on top of the mattress, doesn’t have any elastic or straps or anything to go around and attach to the mattress. It is much thicker than any mattress pad that I have seen.
I have one on my own bed at home. My mattress is an early pillow-top Stearns and Foster - it is over 15 years old now - never was as soft and squishy as pillow tops are now. The fiber bed makes it very soft. My fiber bed is about 4 years old now, and it is beginning to get a little bunchy, it requires more shaking each time I move it to fluff up the foam, although i wouldn’t call it lumpy at all, I think it may have 2 more years of life. It cost about $60 at BB&B, we have a king size bed, though.

Are the fiberbed/featherbeds more comfortable than the eggcrate toppers? My son prefers the eggcrate topper to the memory foam but has never tried the featherbed option.

I am not going to worry about finding a XL. A friend of D’s took her regular twin from her bed last year and she said she didn’t really notice the size difference. This is probably something that I will have to take to her in a few weeks because I don’t think what we have already will fit into the car.
