Feb 12 ACT

The disks one. 75 in total
red had 27 more than green
green had 9 more than blue.
how many did red have?
E.) 46

BUT HOW?! I know this is probably an easy question, but I can’t for the life of me figure it out, can anyone help me out?

IT was 46. You just had to try for each number and one would work. Luckily I did 46 first

@Imveryaverage
Blue=x
Green=Blue+9 (x+9)
Red=green+27 (x+9)+27
Blue+Green+Red=75
(x)+(x+9)+((x+9)+27)=75
3x+45=75
3x=30
x=10
blue=10
Green=Blue+9=10+9=19
Red=Green+27=19+27=46

The math itself wasn’t difficult, but dissecting the problem and solving it without making any mistakes was.
soccersr’s method would have been faster though.

thanks so much. I knew it was 46 ( i changed it from 46 to 37 on the test though, darn it.) I just had no idea how to even plug in numbers, I was extremely stumped. Thanks a lot!

what are you guys talking about the answer was 10 for red.

there was 27 more green than blue
and 9 more blue than red

10 RED
19 blue
46 green

= 75 TOTAL

I put 46. I hope the random above me is wrong.

Pretty sure they must have gotten them mixed up. I highly doubt that 3+ of us would have made the same mistake. It’s understandable though, that question was tricky and you had to read it carefully.

Even now I feel like the first color was “red”

@balster, sorry man, you are wrong u mixed up the numbers. It was 27 more red than green for sure, even though i do not remember the other parts.

@balster - it happens bro… i’m ****ed at myself for getting the area of 8root 3 wrong… some reason i divided twice. proctor was walking by at that point and i think it distracted me. I also think I put 15pi - something for that string one… and I knew how to do it obvi…

ah don’t remind me of the math section haha lets be positive and talk about others haha.

i am so confused. If there were 75 in total, red had 27 MORE than green, green had 9 more than blue. Red would have 46.

Blue + 9 = Green, 10 + 9 = 19
Green + 27 = RED, 19 + 27 = 46
Red + Green + Blue = 10 + 19 + 46 = 75.

Agree, ACT Math is no fun anyway. I think I did decent on everything else though… Reading was pretty good :)

So on the math question, in the taxes part, there was a question asking for the difference of the rate of the two different brackets. Igot .9 but all my friends got .1, which is the right answer? GOTTA GET A 36 ON MATH

@msinan, do you remember the question?

I’m pretty sure it was 0.9%. What do I know though. This will be possibly my worst ACT math ever.

Also, for the other tax question that i think some people said the answer was 160,000, how did they find that answer? I forgot how I found my answer, (and idk which answer i put), i’m just hoping 160k was between like 150k and 180k cuz that seems to be what I remember doing but I am not entirely sure.

@msinan94 as far as I know, .9 is correct
@Theundertaken I got 82500 for an answer, but I don’t recall getting an answer over 100K in the tax questions.
Another answer was .1x-5100.

The answers to the whole section were like 1518. .9%. 82500. .1x-5100

The question regarding the ratios of both circles with the inscribed triangle. We had an agreement it was 2:1 but I was talking to a kid in my school who is great at math, even better than me and im quite good, and he got 2:rad 3

Answering my own question. It was 2:rad 3. It makes perfect sense. Tough to explain by typing tho
