BRRRR. It’s -11 here where I am…and about 62 inside the house (guess we shouldn’t have turned down the heat when we went to bed last night like we always do).
And we are in southern New England!
Anyone else?

Yes, -7 here (windchill -24!!)
We always keep our heat at 62, so that’s what we are this morning. But the nice thing is the heat is running constantly to keep it 62 at the thermostat. And since my room runs about 10 degrees warmer than the thermostat when the heat is on, I’m toasty in my room. Not sure I’ll leave it today at all.
Negative 8 over here (also southern New England), but the wind has died down significantly. So cold! I don’t think I’ve stepped outside in over 24 hours. Haha, I put H on dog duty.
S and his wife are visiting DIL’s parents for the a long weekend….just outside Bangor Maine!!! Last I heard from them last night it was -16 with wind chills of -40! Yeesh.
Mt Washington was reporting -104 wind chill last evening!! My extended family was firing up heat tapes, bringing in all the animals (stray and pets) and bracing. When they let the dog out, they kept her on a line so they could haul her reluctant self back in whether she wanted to wander around, or not
-21 just north of Portland. Windchill hit -45 overnight.
In the past we’ve seen -28 at our house, I think in 2017. But I think it’s the coldest windchill ever recorded here.
We have a super insulated house but the wood boiler struggled to keep it up to temp. We turned on the oil furnace as a backup.
-1 at my house. And I left the thermostat at 64 in the main living area, along with a blazing hot fire in the wood stove. It’s currently 61 and I’ve got my stove blazing again.
Here’s a fun story. My son is taking his gym credit at Bing. He’s doing snowboarding. If any classes are missed, it’s a fail, unless you have a doc note. The class was held, the mountain wasn’t shut. He did four runs and said his goggles completely frosted over. Needless to say, it was lunacy to not cancel the class. The group agreed to sit in the lodge for the duration. And did I mention that his class runs from 4-9 pm?
He didn’t get frostbite, thank goodness. At one point it was -22 with windchill. Ludicrous.
Not just NE. It’s 8° in NYC with a wind chill of -2° at the moment. Which is downright balmy compared to the 4/-11° when I woke up.
How’s the Hudson Valley doing? My 95 year old Dad in Poughkeepsie has been staying inside… skipping his walks.
We had our ridiculously cold day yesterday (it’s a bit warmer today). H and I bundled up & walked in the afternoon, when the wind chill was -11. We were discussing how, in our 20’s, we skied in wind chills that were in the -20’s. To be honest, with the bright sunshine yesterday, we really enjoyed our walk. We have several friends who have moved south in retirement, but we still enjoy winter in the Midwest.
I still love winter. Cold feels healthier than heat to me. I breathe better and don’t get headaches as often.
Cold here in NJ, it’s been a very warm winter! Yesterday a parent posted on the BU parent Facebook page asking who to contact to see if classes could be canceled because her student had to decide whether to go to classes or risk her safety. Comments were turned off.
Time to bake!!! . Throw a slow cooking roast in the oven! Bake some bread!
When it’s bitterly cold like that if I’m home I use it as an excuse to spend more time in the kitchen, make some stuff and at least have one toasty room in the house!
MA----low was -11 with a wind chill of -22. Pipes, etc made it through the night. Brought thermostats ups to 70 last night to keep the furnace clicking on more often.
As of this writing +1 with wind chill of -9.
Mid 40’s tomorrow, 50s by middle of the week!!! What the …
Right. Really only one day of this bitter cold. Last year, we had several multiple days in a row of zero temps.
I’m in the Hudson Valley. Currently 9, and I’m not near the water. Your dad is smart not to walk today because over there by the Hudson River it will feel much colder, plus windchill.
The temperature has gone up to 1! It was -11 when I took the dog out at 7 am. I live northwest of Boston.
We were -11 this morning but now up to zero. We have a puppy and it was very cold last night and first thing this morning taking her outside. Wind chill was in the -40 range. Those were very quick trips out and back in.
I went to college at Clarkson, in Potsdam, waaaaay upstate NY. The first week one professor noted that -40F = -40C … something we might experience in a few months. It is too far north or lake effect snow, but oh my it got cold.
Colorado is a walk in the park in comparison, even during this unusually cold/snowy winter.
