Anyone else have an athlete signing? D2 will sign then for her sport. Her high school has a large ceremony planned as there will be multiple athletes signing for various sports. What do your schools do? Parents who have done this before...did you have another celebration at home?

Really??? No one else is signing???

S committed to Darmouth so there will be a “signing” so to speak, but not really,
cause there is no LOI…I think he’ll just sign the bottom of the likely letter, under the Director of Admissions signature.

Not sure about the ceremony at school…will have to check into that.

My daughter will be signing a well, hers is a small all girls catholic school - I think we have a total of 4 girls signing in three different sports - I don’t know if a celebration is planned, but it’s a good iidea - maybe we can still put one together.

I wish I could sign a LOI, but D3 and ivies don’t have them because they don’t offer scholarships. But I will probably just submit my deposit on that day hahah to simulate signing.

Around here, the signing is usually in the home, with the newspaper there to take photos (story usually makes inside page of the sports section). School announcement is a part of the larger scholarship day at the end of the year…

Just found out local tv stations will be attending the signings at our school. Should be interesting! School had four athletes sign during the early fall signing and now five more. D2 and her friend who is also signing act like this is not a big deal and can’t understand why this is newsworthy. She is very shy and quiet and doesn’t like the attention.

St. Paul paper has listing this morning of athletes scheduled to sign tomorrow. Nice to see so many local kids be rewarded for all their hard work.

The fat envelope with her NLI just arrived via UPS!!! D2 gets home from school around 3. Driving me crazy just staring at it!

I wish our high school had some kind of recognition or ceremony for my daughter. They didn’t assist her along the way, so I’m not surprised. The athletic director made fun of her last year when she said she really needed to attend the outside showcases and concentrate on her studies rather than spending 100% of her time on another school sport he coached. He made snide comments about her recruiting chances. Right now I think she’s the only senior with a LOI in her class of nearly 200. She’ll just sign and send it tomorrow, I guess. Of course we’ll tell her she’s terrific :).

HRSFRM…Tell your D Congrats!!! We are always happy to hear of others’ success! I’m sure you will make it special for her. Take a picture of the signing! Woohoo! And boo to the AD! He should know better! If you get a picture you should email it to your local paper!

D2 opened her packet, read through it and asked if I could help with the paper work. Ha! She did not want to read all the rules and regulations.

NorthMinnesota,

Thanks for the suggestion about the pictures. I just took some while she signed at the dining room table. She thought I was a bit crazy, but it was fun.

I know what you mean about the rules and regs. I read them for my D too :).

^^^Glad it worked for you! The signing at our end went very well. It was well orchestrated by a wonderful AD! Each HS coach spoke about each student athlete who was signing. Team colored balloons, school cakes and a TV crew and photographer were there. Each athlete stood and said where they were going, thanked coaches, family and friends and then had pics taken. Parents provided a bountiful feast of chicken, fresh fruit, desserts and snacks. We had 125 plates and ran out so I was surprised at how many were in attendance! It was really a nice celebration.
