Talk to me about this program.

Generally, is there a certain stigma between regular Midd students and "Febbies"? Do they really get better housing?

Are you sure the Administration feels they "choose our Febs because we see in them students who will use wisely the time between high school graduation and their studies at Middlebury. 'Febs' tend to be highly energetic leaders in their school communities, or students who have already sought unconventional and creative opportunities in their high school careers. Febs typically come to Middlebury ready to 'hit the ground running.'" Or is it simply a revenue ploy?

I'm all ears.

I could've sworn there were a hundred different "Midd Kids" on CC....where are you guys?

I'm a Freshman Feb, so that means I've only been here for about a month, and I promise you, everything they tell you is true! It is so awesome to be a Feb. Feb admits are drawn from the same applicant pool as September admits. Statistically, they hold more leadership positions on campus. For instance, the current SGA president is a Feb. They pick Febs based on whether or not they think you can handle something new and different or if you'll freak out if you don't do things completely by the book. People do amazing things with their semester off. In my class alone, we have an Interntionally renowned Korean Dancer, an Opera singer who directed and produced a musical in China, and a girl who taught English to underprivileged students in Peru. Febs really do everything you can think of with their semester off, from studying abroad to just chilling with their family at home (which is what I did). And we seriously were biting at the chomp to finally get here after our time off.

Concerning housing, Febs are all over the place. There are a couple in the Freshmen Dorms this year, but there are also quite a few in upperclassmen housing. I live in a suite in Gifford with other Febs. There are 8 Febs living in Chateau, the only castle on any campus in the US, so there you go. As for the relationship between Febs and other Freshmen, there is no stigma at all! They really are so excited to meet you! All you have to do is be willing to introduce yourself.

Please private message me or email me if you have any more questions! I really want to help you, because I remember how I felt last year when I found out I was a Feb. I felt like I was deferred, like I wasn't good enough, and like I was admitted out of pity. That really isn't the case though. Really. Come to Admitted Student Preview day, and you'll see what being a Feb is all about! :-)

well I haven't heard anything from Middlebury yet but for some odd reason I have the impression that if I'm admitted I'll be a Feb--so I wanted to read up on it first.

Thanks for the reply

I applied to Midd ED1 and was accepted as a Feb starting in 07. I am already extremely anxious to get to Midd, however I am also looking forward to having the opportunity to spend eight months doing virtually whatever I want.
I don't really know what to expect as far as starting out in the middle of the year, but all of the alum that I know from Midd were febs and they have done nothing but raved about the program.
Does anyone have any advice for a new feb?

That's so exciting! Like I said, I'm a Freshman Feb, so just private message me if you have any questions. You'll be getting something in the mail in June about what it is to be a Feb and what to expect in the coming months. I'm actually going to be on that committee. Seriously, you should totally PM me, I would love talking to you, and I also know someone (through a friend) who was also accepted as an ED Feb for next year. Hope to hear from you soon! :-)
