Hi,
I was so thrilled to find this site. I have been researching and researching and what a blessing to find this. We lost our business, a gift store in the 2003 San Simeon earthquake and have been struggling to pay debts ever since. We received no assistance from FEMA since we did not own the unretroffited building that crushed our store. We did have business insurance but because it was an earthquake it did not cover our losses and all of our belongings. The roof above our store slid off like a mudslide killing two women next door. My daughter then 15 at the time had asked to wait in the car while I ran in to open the store. Thankfully I talked her into coming in because later she watched the second floor of our building crush that car and my husband's truck outside of our store.
Now we are both re-inventing our lives. Not exactly what we had planned in our forties, but we are just thankful to have my daughter safe. My daughter is my world and she has been such a trooper in all of this. She got accepted to AADA a wonderful drama school that she has worked toward during High School. The problem is that it is $17,000 a year not counting room and board. She deferred her enrollment till Fall of 2007. Enrolled in an Esthetician Course so that she could support herself while away at school. We are now dealing with FASA for the Esthetician school. We have delayed filing our 2005 taxes. Can we use our 2004 tax returns?
Also does anyone have any ideas for scholarships for Drama schools or financial aides or loans?
My daughter has had several articles written about her acceptance into this school because we live in a small town, our store was well known and loved and my daughter writes for our town's magazine so is well known and loved as well. Everyone wants to help but no one knows quite how.
I have written letters to different foundations. I just pray that the right person sees something and is touched to contact us or knows someone or a program that may help her.
Any information or guidance would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you,
Diane

I also wanted do ask if anyone has known anyone who has attended The American Academy of Dramatic Arts and if they can share any information about the school.
Thanks for your help!

I was so happy to find this site.
I guess no one has any suggestions
or answers to my questions?

I do not have any answers for you, but will be wishing you and your daughter the best. It's been a tough road for both of you. Hopefully the future will bring you hope and happiness!

Did you fill out the financial aid forms for AADA?
From their web site:
"Upon submission of a completed application for admission, the applicant will be sent a financial aid information packet containing all necessary forms to be filled out by the applicant and the applicant's family. In order to apply for financial aid from the Academy, the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and the Financial Aid Worksheet (New York campus only) must be completed (both are included in the financial aid information packet). Click here for FAFSA. The Academy reserves the right to request additional information when it is necessary to assess a family's or individual's financial strength accurately."
What was the aid package they offered her?
