Hey guys. Have you heard about the Federal Budget Cuts for the State of NJ? I heard it's affecting Rutger's tuition and scholarships. It could be as bad as 30% raised tuition and no merit aid at all.

I heard about this as well. The way Rutgers and the other state schools are going to deal with the budget cut is by taking away scholarships. By law, universities are not allowed to raise their tuition more than 5 percent per year, so a 30 percent increase in tuition is nearly impossible. Hope that helps.

The proposed cuts were really horrible, but nothing is voted on until July. Rutgers faculty, students, and administration are mobilizing to fight this, but no one knows how it will turn out

I called them and they said nothing will be certain till summer.... but... we have to make our decisions by May 1st... how would that work? My decision, i'm sure along with many other pplz, will change depending on how much Rutger's price is raised n stuff.

ok, well I'm sure that by law, the tuition will not go up more than 5%, so unless you're worried about scholarships, it should not make that much of a difference

well they gave a good scholarship and i'm kind of depending on that.
They wudn't take away scholarship after giving them wud they?
i kno tcnj already took away their merit scholarship.

I'm not sure... I'm here on a full scholarship and believe me, there would be rioting if they took away our scholarships. It's really important to a lot of people here, and there would be a lot of protesting about that taken away. (though there would be protesting if anythink is taken away :-/)

We just have to wait till the final budget is posted... like I said, a lot of people will be protesting the Rutgers budget cut until July.. I think that (i hope that) the cuts wont be near as drastic as Corzine proposed.

i know! i'm soo worried.. getting a full scholarship was the only reason i chose rutgers.. and now.. deposit paid and everything.. housing app filled out. and to think i couldve gone to UNC..

Update: as people have said before, rutgers cant raise their tuition more than 5% to 10%. and i called rutgers and they said they CANNOT take any scholarships away.

btw, they said that if any feels strongly about the budget cuts please write a letter to Corzine!! =) Let's fight this!

I don't think TCNJ is taking away scholarships. They sent a letter out, as I am going there next year, saying that if the state doesn't pay for the scholarship, the college will.
