I have a friend who has a dilemma. She's double majoring in Computer Science (eligible for SMART) and Business Management (not eligible for SMART), and have received a federal SMART grant for two semesters. Due to poor planning, she's not going to be able to graduate on time if she completes both majors. Therefore, she's decided that she's going to major in Business Management and minor in Computer Science instead. It's clear that she'll lose SMART funding for next semester, however she's also concerned that the government will demand retribution on the $4,000 SMART grant that she's already received. Is her fear justified? Will the government demand financial retribution on a SMART grant if a student drops an eligible major for an ineligible one?
