Federal Verification Process

Well, my son was one of 30% at his intended college to be selected! I have a question regarding the "signed" copy of our tax return. Our copies were copied signed ~ so, is it okay to send in a copy of our already signed tax return? I don't really know what they mean by a signed copy....

Thanks all!

Yes,

You should send in whatever the school requests, usually a copy of your signed Federal tax returns and the supporting W-2s.

Has anybody's financial aid package changed from this routine verification process?

His bill is due by August 19th and I am still waiting for the paperwork to get here for the verification. He was just picked on July 27th. They told us to wait for the paper work because the verification form may be different. They said that there are several different forms....but I could only find one federal form....

Thanks!

Uhmmm - "signed" is typically ambiguous in these time, most folk I know e-file...no "signature" per se.

Thanks, momofthreeboys! That seems to add some light on this matter ~ that is probably exactly what it is.

I like your name...I am mom of six boys!

Enjoy your weekend

What I did was xerox copied the tax forms (previously signed & filled in), then in blue ink I signed the bottom of the xerox copy & dated it with the current date. I figured this way they have a "copy" of the signed and a new "wet" signature.

No issues. No changes to fin aid.

Exactly what we've done.
Made a copy of our copy, then signed it (already had the original signature on it) and sent it in. Worked fine.

Ha ha ha...

I did the same thing too. We are all soo honest in this thread, eh? :)

I took things up a notch, because I stupidly misplaced my W2 form and felt bad until I found it... and wrote on the copies of all of my tax information: Dear "Ms. Smith" here is my copy of my W2 (1040 and whathaveyou), signed merlinjones and then I put the date.
