Federal Work Study - Cornell University

My D21 got Federal Work Study award. Do we need to use this award only during Fall or Spring semesters. Or, can we use this for Summer jobs/Internships. Is it mandatory to do the job, If we accept the award

It’s not mandatory to do the job, but if you don’t do the job you get zero benefit (money, but also work experience) from the award. In other words, accepting the award means doing the job. Not working = no pay.

Federal work study is part of your D’s financial aid packaging.
The money is usually used for incidental items your D may need while she is at school.

If your D does not want to do a work study job, she does not have to. Unless she gets an outside scholarship, to replace the work study funding, the money will not be made up from other institutional sources.
